DR. YIP SWEE CHOOI memorized a dictionary with ~1300 pages in half a year. Are there any tutorials on how he did that?

Hello.

I was curious what technique he used. i read in an article he used his body as a mind palace ( somebody please explain me how that would work out for such a gargantuan mass of information?), in another part of the internet i read that he used the journey method…

Here’s a link to an old blog post by JC;

The sub-links seem to have disappeared, but I’m sure JC will do the honours.

Sorry about that. I’ve fixed the video in the blog post.

Hello, and thanks for the answers. I had seen the vide of Dr.Yip before, but I didn’t understand what technique he exactly used. I’d be grateful for clarification

I would expect that Dr.YIP is a very experienced memorizer who may have had a lot of prior experience with those words.

From the video, he converted each page number of the dictionary to a keyword using the ‘the major system’ and then used that keyword as an index to a series of journeys.

So, if tie (as in a man’s necktie) was the keyword for number 1 and therefore page one, that could lead to a journey through a men’s clothing store where he deposited each word in a locus through mnemonic association. (he may also have numbered each locus)

Do you know how long it took him to memorize that dictionary? I can’t seem to find the answer.

I don’t know much more about it than what is in the video below. The title of this thread says “half a year”.

It does say half a year, but I watched the video and didn’t hear him say how long it took him so i’m wondering where that “half a year” came from.
