Tips to Speed Up Your PAO Card Memorization

I suspect that you haven’t drilled for recognition nearly enough.

A while back I made a post about managing expectations for how long it will likely take to get fluent with number and card systems.

If you haven’t seen it, check it out HERE.

If you don’t already, practice just drilling for recognition. Don’t try to memorize any sequences, just reveal a card and try to recall its element. You can either do this with a physical deck or online flashcard tools like Anki. (If you go the Anki route, I’ve provided a template deck for a PAO card system, all you need to do is fill in your words / images. It can be found HERE.)

In order to get faster you need to be able to directly connect the card to all three of its elements. (Card to person, Card to action, Card to object.) You should practice each of these element types independently. Go through the deck and visualize all of the person associations. Then go through again and visualize all the actions. Then again with all the objects. Try to form direct connections as much as possible so you don’t have to spend extra time with multiple conversions.

This of course is easiest if you’re using a card system that lets you read each of those elements directly from the card index, like basing it on numbers with the Major System or using a visual shape technique. But even with a “classic” PAO where the action and object stems from the person, you can try to practice keeping things as independent as possible. You haven’t specified what kind of card system you use, so you’ll have to see what applies there to the approach you’re taking.

More on that HERE.

It’s still very early on for you, don’t try to rush things that can’t be rushed. Your brain needs lots of reps making those exact associations before it becomes “fast” and even more before they become reflexive and fluent without you having to actively translate them. You’ll get there.

Good luck!
