This is entertaining but I’m not sure whether it has any value being used by colouring individual letters. Nouns, verbs and adjectives adjectives have colours. Memorizing words as kaleidoscopes of random color doesn’t make sense.
I can see using a simple roygbiv+2 for digits in addiition to loci and major/pao etc.
I may very well give it a try for simple numeric memory.
I can also see using colour in remembering text to provide context. blue man, red man, yellow man … cold, angry happy… colouring the nouns, adjectives verbs to provide context to the memory of the text. It doesn’t seem like many/any on this board have found effective methods for the memorization of text. Actors do it (scripts) Muslims do it (koran in persian) It should be part of memory sports but it isn’t.
Colour seems like an important element but again random letter colouring seems to miss the point unless you are trying to memorize random letters I suppose.
Colour is context and emotion in complicated scenarios.
U have a point with whole adjectives and nouns would be useful. But a combination of colors for a word can also evoke an emotion and feel cold, warm ect, i wrote in a previous post about this. So an exact combination of colors will remind u of the word not just the form and sequence of the letters.
I used the chrome plugin, Synesthetize, and applied base and secondary colours to the digits and worked on pi a bit over the last 24 hours. I don’t know that it has any positive value but I am definitely having rather disturbing images of colour in my head this morning when I let my thoughts drift. So yes it seems trivially easy to invoke some form of colour reaction in the brain but whether this has any merit is entirely unclear. I’m currently doing pi to 1000 with the major system and loci as a self confidence building exercise and to lock in practicing with the major and loci methods. I will continue with colour and see how it feels in the end and whether there is any transferability over the next 6 to 8 weeks. I have my doubts but it is an interesting mental aberration at worst.
Colors I selected for not much reason other than Primary, Secondary, Visible and differentiable on my laptop monitor. black and red yellow green as the first four are mentally easy for me to remember. ( nothing, stop light) nine is grey (almost nothing)
0: #000000 Black
1: #FF0000 Red
2: #FFFF00 Yellow
3: #00FF00 Green
4: #FF00FF Pink
5: #00FFFF Aqua
6: #8D38C9 Purple
7: #0000FF Blue
8: #A0522D Brown
9: #808080 Gray
I have read at least 15m before sleeping 5/7 days a week for almost 2 months now. I still dont see normal text as colorful. However, i can think my text in color, i also enjoy reading with the letters colorized as long as its well formated. I will continue this experiment and see how it goes. But im starting to think that some active thinking (or how to put it) is needed. Like u really think more of the letter in a word and what color it has etc. But havent had the energy to do that, i just want to relax and read in the evening using as little mental effort as possible. I dont think u can develop synesthesia by just passivly reading a colorfull bool, some mental training would be needed as well.
What is the current state of the colorizing software and where do I find it?
I didn’t find any significant positive effects from this process other than rather strange dreams when I last tried it but I’m grinding out mental addition/subtraction right now and it might be fun to generate mutilcoloured number lists to keep myself entertained as a variation on anzan and trying to multiply 3 digit numbers.
… on a side note are you aware of any tools online for generating lists of numbers 1 digit, 2 digits, 3 digit etc that I could use to feed the colorizer? (Yes I’m lazy). thanks -rf
Good question!
I’d like to have more information about that
Personally, I’ve tried to reach synesthesia via self-hypnosis. For the moment it doesn’t work perfectly (but I’ve tried only 4 or 5 times… I’m not very serious :p). The good side is: I manage to have a synesthesia sounds → colors. It’s a little strange because I really manage to have the change of colors when I look to a white surface (which becomes yellow (often), blue, green, bright, sometime grey…) and when I listen classical music. Generally it lasts between 2 and 5 mins.
If you know a hypnotist, you should be able to feel more than me, because hypnosis is more efficient than self-hypnosis
“Personally, I’ve tried to reach synesthesia via self-hypnosis”
It’s a big gun. You can train yourself to achieve ‘artificial synesthesia’ with some easier exercices.
Train to memorise grocery list with little stories, with each item as a protagonist.
(ex: milk is going to the book store, he stumble on a carrot, so they beguin to fight. They put pastic gloves as boxing gloves etc)
You can train on more abstract or complex links (like countries names and capitols) with images and little stories (The capital of France is Paris, so i image a Frank warrior who Perish in the stupidest way possible, with a great deal of vivid détails)
it’s easier to remember images and stories than names, for most people.
Then, when your ability to transform anything in 3d stories is up to date (a few weeks) try to apply it to what you have to do (anderstanding a text, memorizing with the Loci method, etc)
Well @Bateman,There is a Speed reading application which is called Outread which helps a person to read without any loss in comprehension and appreciation and I think that it only uses a simple text effect to make it work and I think that it can be combined with Beeline Reader which also uses colors to help people to read faster and easier and you find out more about them in the following websites or links -
And I think that that feature of the Outread app which highlights text is called Guided Reading and I think that this will be beneficial to @wayweary’s app.
Well, @wayweary I think that you should look at the screenshot below -
And if you increase the resolution of the screenshot above or try to create a smaller version of this screenshot(with fewer words and because of this colours) I think that you will be able to read faster and I think that this would be more pleasing(This type of Speed Reading which can be also combined with other types of Speed Reading),
But do not use it in your app without consulting a lawer as I think that this is similar to the colouring in Beeline Reader whose techology is Patented,See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beeline_reader
and in the colouring posted in the above image the first and the last letters of each word each contain a 60% light colour which can be found in Microsoft Powerpoint.
Hi! I just read through your forum so far. On the coding side I’m just starting to learn Java so I won’t be much help. I know a bit about neurology though. I have mild chromesthesia myself and am trying to A) make it stronger. And B) try to develop grapheme color synesthesia. Anything I can contribute.
I’m also going to use the chrome extension to read free books online in my spare time. If that helps.
I also know a lot about hypnosis and can do it on anyone with a mild response to it. Only two people have had full responses with me yet. I’ve never tried inducing synesthesia though. I could contact one of those people and try if that would help? I can record a script as well if anyone wants.
