Saturday 10 am ? Paris Time.
Cool
that would be fine
see you 2020-06-27T08:00:00Z
@Puje I messaged you privately, let me know when you can play! I am GMT - 7
I would propose that for the Semis we do the same as for the QF, but with 5: The first player to get more than 5 points wins, but if the score is 5 - 5, the first with a two-game lead wins the match (7-5, 8-6 etc…). Choices are reset at 5 - 5.
And for the Final, it might be cool to do best of three sets with each set like the QF.
Both would mirror the rules of the Remote Tournament nicely (that there a match could end 4-3, or 5-4 respectively, was only because we had surprise events).
I think rules like that have to be made in beforehand. It is not right that one competitor (who still is in the competition) can make the rules just because he is the first one to make a suggestion and ask the organizer. If all semi-finalists agree, fine.
Btw, I do not like the idea, because then there is no real choice, every discipline has to be chosen once by the competitors. There is just the little choice between Names and International Names and the order of the disciplines.
But again, if it is fine for the semi-finalists, no problem, but the process of deciding is not appropriate so far.
Of course all semi-finalists would have to agree.
Also, after nobody really thought about the rules for the finals of season 7 until the finals had arrived and thus there was no match with sets (despite having been the standard for past seasons), it was my impression that this was seen as not ideal and that it would be better to make this differently next time.
Much thought had been given to the rules for the ML Remote tournament, in particular for the finals. As far as I can see, at the start of season 8, no rules for the finals have been written down anywhere, so there were no rules. It seemed to make sense to avoid a similar situation like last time by proposing that the ML tournament rules are to be used.
Regarding your point that 4 disciplines is better than 5 because one can leave out an event: This merely leads to the fact that each competitor leaves out their worst event. I do not see a big strategic gain from that. It is often very clear which one that will be. And playing through some scenarios for the upcoming semis, I can say that the order in which you choose the events can make a huge difference in terms of strategy: Will you push first with your best events and exert pressure or will you try to get your worse events out of the way, maybe score an upset there and then have an easier coasting at the end. On the other hand, if that goes wrong, you might not even get to your best events before it is over. But whether to reset choices at 4 - 4 or 5 - 5 surely is a matter where good arguments can be made for both sides, so if some of the other semi-finalists prefer resetting at 4 - 4, this can certainly be solved.
Okay, I maybe misunderstood it, I thought the rules were set now (taking into account your conversation during the game between Sylvain and Lkhagvadulam). I just thought rules like that need to be discussed publicly.
But I agree, since there were no official rules, someone had to take the first step, so good that you have done it. Nonetheless, for the next seasons, there must be rules in beforehand or be decided by a neutral person in my opinion.
Regarding the rules itself: I see your point, that the order of the events is more important than I initially thought. The difference between 4-4 or 5-5 is probably not very big, because the two additional games are very likely to end 1-1. Maybe we can try it in the semi-finals now, and see how competitors and spectators like it.
These were the rules for the playoffs and finals:
If all the semi-finalists agree to modifying them, that’s fine with me.
Thank you, @Simon.
I also think it would be good to talk about the rules for the finals of season 9 already. I would propose the ones I mentioned above for that.
I would also be interested in the opinions by as many season 9 division 1 athletes a) how we can make the subdivisions more balanced and b) whether it makes sense to return to larger subdivisions for season 9. Subdivisions of 8 or 10 (then with two of these) also seems good to me.
I can‘t seem to reach @sfep via private message.
Any chance we can play the play-off sometime this weekend?
I personally would enjoy bigger divisions myself as it would actually feel more like a league then. But I think smaller Divisions with shorter seasons make it easier for athletes to estimate whether they will have the time to commit to it. And as this is the biggest issue with the league I feel like all or at least most decisions regarding the league ought to prioritize to promote a small default rate.
@IssaKurapika Hi, nice to meet you again! Sorry, I can’t tell for sure when I’m available in the next few days. But how about next Sunday, 5th of July? That should work on my side. Just tell me a time between 10am and 9pm GMT+2, and I will be there.
What do you say? Is next Sunday okay for you? ![]()
I Think 5 Of July It Work For me

Also Make Stream On my Channel if that ok With you?
Perfect, see you at 2020-07-05T19:00:00Z.
Streaming is okay, as long as you don’t ask me to get myself on camera. I’m not ready yet to present myself live to the internet. (You won’t believe it, but I’m publicity-shy
)
Looking forward to the match!
No Problem With That
But its better for you To live like real competition
Trust me on this You wont regret about it
Great to see many of the playoffs and division 1 finals being played. And great to see some of the matches on the Memory Sports Twitch channel! Let’s try to wrap things up in the next couple of weeks so we can start looking ahead to the next season.

Regarding future seasons, I’m thinking about these changes:
- Run seasons on a predictable schedule:
- January to March (regular season January and February, finals and playoffs in March)
- April to June (regular season April and May, finals and playoffs in June
- July to September (regular season July and August, finals and playoffs in September)
- October to December (regular season October and November, finals and playoffs in December)
-
If the regular season goes for 2 months, having 8 players in a division seems about right. So you would need to play 7 matches over the 2 months.
-
Have some prerequisites for people taking part in the League. Maybe you need a certain minimum rating (3000?), or maybe you need to have played a certain number of rated games? The idea of this is to avoid people signing up who are new to Memory League and aren’t so committed to playing their matches.
If anyone has any further suggestions or comments for how to improve things in future seasons, let me know!
Hi, I tried to get in contact with Dimi, but no answer.
Frank

@IssaKurapika You are very nice, friend. I appreciate your kindness. Sorry, no camera this time. Maybe in season 10. (I’m probably going to take a break next season in order to work on my systems.) But thanks a lot for the invitation!
