It wasn’t for memory palaces, but when I was learning my system I created hand positions for my vowels. (I use consonant-vowel for 2-digit numbers and consonant-vowel-consonant for 3-digit numbers, like a modified Ben System.)
I would recite the numbers and move my hands into the position for the vowels. It created interesting mental associations between vowel sounds and space.
