Learning Guitar songs, words and chords

I’m currently learning a song in a completely different method than I ever have in the past. It was always repetition repetition repetition till it stuck. But then I found that some songs wouldn’t stick past a few months then I would have to redo again.

This time I am using my newfound journey methods from the techniques found on this site. I am converting words to images to make a story and placing them in a journey. In these journeys interacting with the converted images I am using the Kodaly Method of hand signals. see HERE

Do = Fist or punch (mainly associated with C chord)
Re = Traffic cop waving on traffic (D chord)
Me = bestowing power (E chord)
Fa = Thumbs down (dissapproving) (F chord)
So = handshake (G chord)
La = Limp wrist (gay) (A Chord)
Ti = Pointing upwards (B Chord)

Used with hand signals

# = Knife
♭ = A level (checking flatness)
Maj = Major Payne (doing these actions)
Min = An umpa lumpa

Thats what I have so far. I’m not sure if this is the best method. I’m mainly struggling with the converting of words to images probably because I am fairly new to these techniques. But I am seeing benefit of visually recalling both the chords and words with relative ease once the story is established within my memory palace.

For repeating chord patterns I will leave out the major and umpa lumpa actions till a new chord pattern arrives within the journey.

Does anyone else use hand gestures while encoding in a memory palace? Is this okay for competitions?

I’ve been experimenting with memorizing lyrics and chord changes by combining emotional associations with memory palace techniques. For example, I link each chord to a color or feeling (G = calm blue, Am = sad red) and place vivid images for each lyric line along a journey. It helps me remember both the words and when to change chords. Has anyone else tried combining colors or emotions with chord memory?

I tried different ways to memorize songs for singing and playing guitar. The method that works best for me so far is this:
First I learn the lyrics with the help of a memory palace. Recall-rehearsal is singing the song. The melody already gives me a good idea where the chord changes take place.
Then I learn the chords to the song. I start asking myself, which key is the song in. That makes it easier to understand and remember the other chords in the song.
Sometimes, that’s already enough to know the whole song.
If I’m still not 100% sure where I should play which chord, I attach the chords to the appropriate word in the song (I usually use symbols, objects or people for the chords and link those to the words).
