Just going to start out this learning log with a list of things I want to learn or am learning and what systems I’m using or will be using.

My main goals are to learn these new systems, get them all set up and start applying them. I’ve got a pretty thick sketchbook I’m using to start drawing out art for my peg system and bestiary. I’ve already got one image done for ‘Queen Anne’s Lace’ which is surprisingly effective.
Applications:
Incorporate mneumonics and bestiary images for every plant I’m learning.
Create a Lukasa board for Latin grammar (currently in the encoding process).
Create a Lukasa board for botanical plant I.D.
Anki for all vocabulary (modify everything with mneumonics).
Use chess.com lessons & practice puzzles from books.
The two issues I have is how to encode the night sky and humoral medicine. These two topics are tricky for me. But I might get a wood burning kit to burn the constellations into some board and then encode details from there. As far as, humoral medicine is concerned, I’ve got a bit of studying to do before I feel like I have a decent enough grasp on how to lay out the memory system. But it may end up being a lukasa board as well.

If you haven’t decided yet, guitar is a good one. It only takes a few months to be able to play something that can be put to use (if you pay attention to technique), it can be used for any style of music, and the instrument is portable.
You should look into the chess king app, its a free app which has a lot of online libraries consisting of theoretical modules and thematical puzzles (each course has on average aprox 500 puzzles and 300 modules cost ranging from 5$ to 30$) which are adjusted to your own rating. You can find the unlocked apk online
Talking about apps I’d suggest looking into mnemopro, which, by the way, is free
I got a guitar but haven’t used it. I think I’m going to go through Language Transfer’s Music Theory course and then try Simply Guitar app for starting out.
I got that book and a copy of Alice in Wonderland in Ladino. I’m also taking couses from Oxford’s School of Rare Jewish Languages. I’m five weeks in and have learned Rashi script and a bit of Solitreo.
It is free and online! Gotta watch out for the application deadlines, but it’s a great class.They also have Yiddish, Judeo- Arabic, Judeo- Greek and a ton of other languages.
Could you elaborate on your use of the bestiary method? Is it like the one discussed in this thread?
As for constellations, perhaps you could try to envision the animal/object they represent (in the same pose of course), then use that as a memory palace to encode further information. Sort of like is shown in this illustration of Leo:
So you’d see the Lion (presumably in your memory palace if you want to remember the sequence of the constellations as well). You’d then ‘zoom in’ on his paw to find that a crown is wrapped around it (from latin ‘regnum’), which gives you the name of the star in that position, ‘Regulus’.
I got the idea from the ‘Memory Code’ and after looking at old medieval bestiaries and herbals online. However, mine is also a bit different. I’ve included an example for Queen Anne’s Lace. This details all the identifying features you need to know in order to wild harvest. From the shapes of the plant top ‘umbrel’ similar to umbrella, to it’s latin name, the drop of red in the center of umbrel, leaf shape (carrot like), hairy stem, related to carrots, etc. Is it weird? Absolutely, but it’s also memorable.
Great idea on the constellations! I’ll figure something out and share it when I get my peg system (visual alphabet similar to the post you linked) completed.

I got most of what I wanted to get done yesterday evening finished with the exception of working on the visual alphabet. I got sucked into the Music Theory course and ended up listening to several lessons.
Anki (Hebrew, Ladino, Latin, Esperanto, & Shavian) I haven’t finished adding mnemonics yet but for the ones I have, memory retention has increased.

Latin: I should have 100 reps on the 1st declension by this evening. Tomorrow, I’ll move to the 2nd declension.
Sidenotes:
I’ve decided to start chess halfway through December so I’m not stretched too thin. This doesn’t mean I won’t look at chess puzzles in books which I might start also doing in the evenings.
I also want to eventually add Web Dev via FreeCodeCamp. I used to be pretty good at Git, Vim, etc. and I feel like I’ve really let it slide over the past few years.
Ladino class this morning so I’m writing up flashcards and cloze cards for grammar.
Updated my Lakasa board with gold dots to indicate sub-categories of Latin Grammar I need to memorize. This is making me a bit behind but I didn’t know that I would need sub-categories until looking through the Ranieri-Dowling Method excel sheet in depth.

My computer crashed and wiped due to a Windows update. It threw me off track but I should be back at it in a week or less. I’m working on encoding the 2nd declension in Latin at the moment. More updates to come…
Slowly working through the ‘Responsive Web Design Certification’ on Free Code Camp. I’m probably going to have to take a look at those Janki notes at some point and make some cards.
Up to 1218 (starting point is 800) in Chess puzzles. Feels completely different from Lichess and ratings are different (I was 1541 on Lichess).
Working through 1st section of FreeCodeCamp on and off through the week.
Found this site called Code Quest and did a few levels. Reminds me of Code Combat which is pretty fun. Might have to get that again sometime.
I will be back to Latin on Sunday. Need to cram Ladino grammar in the meantime.
I know it probably doesn’t seem like a lot but I’ve got some posts I need to outline on Social Ecology / Deep Ecology and I’ve been working on modernizing an old herbal ‘The Art of Physic Made Plain And Easie’ by D. Famibisarius. So, my updates will tend to be all over the place. If I miss something for a while, I will always come back to it eventually.
Did a practice game of chess. I’m terrible. I threw the game so many times. But at least I recognized the fact that I threw the game. Little victories.

Haven’t been listening to the Music Theory in a few days. But that’s because I’ve been listening to music and trying to pick out some of the elements from the lessons.
Trying to build that daily Anki habit. I’m almost there.
That’s pretty much it for this week. I’ve got family coming over for the holidays. My Sunday plans are pretty much just Music Theory, Anki, and Drilling Latin Grammar.
So, my computer crashed again for a completely different reason. Good news is I got it fixed in less than a day and while I was waiting for stuff to upgrade I’ll found this app called ‘Sleek’ for Linux. It’s essential a GTD tool via todo.text files. Anyways, I’ve set up three files on there and suddenly I’m organized. I’m going to start adding subsections for all my language learning books and for FreeCodeCamp on there so I can track my progress. I’ve also set up Streaks for Android to keep track of my dailies. It’s working well so far.
I think trying to start things during the holidays is tempting fate. lol Everything that could stop me has attempted it. So, I’m adapting… At least for this month by targeting what I can whenever there’s a spare moment. I won’t get everything done in a week. But I will try.
Chess | Completed 1,251 puzzles Ladino | Memorizing Vocab and Verb Forms while on break. Coding | I joined TinyCodeChristmas for a short challenge. Anki | Almost have a daily habit going for Latin, Esperanto, Ladino, and Hebrew vocab. Visual Alphabet | Going slowly when I have time. But I’ve gotten up to a design for letter ‘I’. Writing Projects | I’ve completed modernizing 45 pages of ’ The Art of Physick Made Plain & Easie’ so far.
I also ended up taking a course in Dialectics over the holidays so that’s keeping me busy and I’m trying to knock out all the books I have partly read this year but haven’t finished.
