Hi guys, I have trained for a while, but i think I need more efficiency by not memorizing and recall the random alphabets, and use less time by just saying what the alphabets are. So example: I won’t memorise “Igsbslwbssvsk”, but I will only say what the alphabets are. So I=…, g=… etc without memorizing and recalling. I know I didn’t explain it well, but if you understand, does it make my journey to faster speed shorter?
If I’m understanding correctly, you’re asking if you should practice both actually memorizing/recalling AND just for recognition?
If so, my answer would be definitely yes.
One of the big goals of training a system is to become fluent and instantaneous at converting info into imagery. For something like numbers or cards for example, you want to get to a point where you see a number like 23 and it immediately brings an image into your mind of whatever you’ve designated to represent that number. Or you see the Ace Of Spades and you don’t even think of it as the Ace Of Spades, you see it instantly as whatever person or object or action or whatever you’ve designated to represent that card.
The only way to build speed to that reflexive, instantaneous recognition is to practice. The goal of that type of practice is not to actually store and memorize and recall the specific sequence that you see, but to visualize as quickly as possible the representational imagery for each.
Your overall speed depends on both how quickly you can memorize an image or scene so that it sticks and is recallable, AND how quickly you can recognize and visualize each element.
If one is lacking, your speed will be capped. You can recognize your elements instantly but still take 10 seconds to create a scene with each of them. Or you can take 10 seconds to recognize the element and then have instantaneous scene building, but both give you the same end result time. Ideally you’ll work on getting faster with BOTH facets and that will ultimately improve your total speed.
Thanks for the advice. So now I will try to train to have faster “reflexes” on my PAOs and then train on really memorizing and recalling random stuff. Is it ok?
And of course, I won’t expect to have immediate results after more than an hour or two, because I learnt that this really takes time to build up.
You can do both in the same day. No need to wait until your recognition speed is perfect before trying to put it to use! I’d recommend setting a specific amount of time aside for reflex recognition training and another specific amount for memorizing practice in one day or practice session.
Very good mindset. Having realistic expectations about the time needed is really important to staying motivated and not getting discouraged by “slow” progress.
Have a look here for a breakdown of how much time it takes to review different size systems:
You answered the question correctly, and you just made it much easier to understand.
Thank you for explaining!
