Last week, I shared the Anki deck that I used to learn and practice the Shadow System: (HERE)
I realized that there will only be a few folks looking to take the jump into that system as it is a pretty advanced technique, so I wanted to provide a similar resource for those who just starting out or are looking to get better at the more widely used 1 and 2-digit PAO number systems.
So, here is my Anki deck for that!
Inside you’ll find individual notes/cards for all 330 elements needed for a complete PAO list for all numbers 0-9 and 00-99. Each one has the number on the “question” side and the word that I use on the “answer” side.
NOTE: My list is based entirely on the Major System phonetics, but you can easily replace my words with your own using whatever system you prefer!
There is also a field on each note for an image, which I highly recommend filling in to practice visualizing with. If you have a rudimentary understanding of setting up cards in Anki, you can easily change the card layout to display the picture field instead of or along with the word field as the answer.
As an additional feature, the deck also has 330 cards that are reversed, where the question is in the format of “Person: X” or “Action: X” or “Object: X” and the answer displays the associated number. In this way you can practice both encoding numbers into words/images and also decoding images/words into numbers. It also encourages independent association of each element with it’s number, a really important thing to develop.
All of the “number → image” cards are in the “Encode” deck(s), and all of the “image → number” cards are in the “Decode” deck(s).
Each card is tagged with its type (P for person, A for action, O for object), it’s odd or even value, its tens place digit, and its ones place digit. This way you can easily sort and practice in many different ways to build fluency. In addition to numerical order, you can practice random order, or all the actions that are even, or all the 30’s, or maybe all the numbers that end in 4’s… I found this variety really helpful for building independent association and speed. By practicing a variety of ways and using Anki’s built in spaced-repetition algorithm, you’ll be working as efficiently as you can to learn your list, and hopefully be able to start using it sooner.
You’re welcome to use my words, but I’d really encourage you to replace many if not all of them with elements that resonate personally with you. The more you let your own brain do the building, the better you’ll learn it because you’ll be building on pre-existing associations.
Anyways, here is the link, please let me know if you run into any issues using it!
