So I read a few books and decided to get started memorizing numbers, and decided to skip straight over the usual PAO system and instead try out a PCAO (Person Costume Action Object) system of my own design. But while it is only the first day of trying to memorize things, and I have managed to do 20 digits today in 12 minutes, I can’t help but think that I might be better off just switching to PAO until I have more experience.

IMO you (or anybody starting) should start with a base and go from there. Last August when I started I had grandiose expectations that weren’t realistic. I currently have a fully functioning PO (person/object) 0 to 9999 and semi-complete PAO to 99,999 (I only have ten separate actions, for me it’s a pain to try to visualize 100 separate and distinct actions) and it works well.
If you’re looking for a simpler, but still impressive to the unexpecting, card sequencing/digit memorizing routine this might be good to start.

Yeah I can see how coming up with actions will be a pain in the future.
I’ve settled on PAO mostly because it was too hard to keep characters straight with PCAO. I currently have the numbers 0 to 9 mapped out and sitting in the first ten slots of my journey for easy reference. I’ve realized that I definitely need to build up my visualization skills before trying anything crazy, as just building scenes is taking me at least 40 seconds a scene.
