How I memorize the color sequence of a pack of cards...

If this is posted (in any of its forms) somewhere else on this forum I apologize by I couldn’t find it, so here’s my way…

I’m having difficulty (hitting a wall so to speak) memorizing cards of a deck so I thought I’d take a break and try something a lot easier, but that still impresses people to no end. For this technique you will need persons and objects(or actions) from 0 to 77. You will end up with only four loci (PO) and one single P doing nothing at the end with all cards accounted for.

First of all, it’s important to note that in any three-card sequence there can be only eight possible variations.

B is a black card
R is a red card
BBB
BBR
BRB
BRR
RBB
RBR
RRB
RRR

Anyone who knows about binary will find this part easy.

As an example, binary 111 would actually be 7, as the value doubles every time you move to the left.
011 would be 3, 101 would be 5 etc.

The above would be

BBB 0 (no red cards)
BBR 1
BRB 2
BRR 3
RBB 4
RBR 5
RRB 6
RRR 7 (all red cards)

RRBRRBBBBRBRRRRRRRBBRRRBBBBBBRBRRRBBRRRRBBRRBBBBBBRB
This is a real sequence of cards that I shuffled and remembered (in about a minute) this evening about an hour ago. This is what I did.

  1. Group the cards by threes.
RRB RRB BBB RBR RRR RRR BBR RRB BBB BBR BRR RBB RRR RBB RRB BBB BB RB

You do this by simply putting a decimal number value per three cards as you swipe them in your palm right to left.
RRB would be 6
RRB would be 6
BBB = 0
RBR = 5 etc.

66057716 for me is lady GaGa (66) wearing ruby slippers (05) followed by Spongebob Squarepants (77) chewing on a rope (16). My list can be found Here because I’m too lazy too re-write it

Oh, by the way, those 8 numbers equal 24 card colors memorized…

I went to a buddy of mines kitchen in my mind this afternoon and saw…

lady GaGa wearing red ruby slippers. In the chair next to her was Spongebob Squarepants chewing on a rope. Leaning against the counter was Neo (the ONE) spraying perfume. At the fridge I saw Scooby Doo with an azkaban sign around his neck. Sitting at the top of the basement stairs looking lonely and doing nothing was OBi wan Kenobi.

This is for those noobs to mnemonics that are finding memorizing card sequences a little tough (me included) and want to have at least one “how’d you do THAT” under their belt to hang their hat on.

This wasn’t completely my idea. I read a variation HERE but found the “N U O B T” idea too damned confusing so I made up the binary idea.

Good idea… I use that mentat system when I’m introducing people to memory techniques, but I turn the letters into images like this instead of creating words from the letters. If you have mnemonic images for 00-99 that is much better.
