Memory Training App for Android?

This would be very useful. Does anyone know of anything?

Could display:
random numbers
random cards
random faces
etc.

Maybe someone here with (Java) skills that could make this app?

www.memocamp.com (not free, great for everything!)

www.memoriad.com (free, great for numbers, ok for cards, sucks for names)

Hi, those aren’t for offline android usage.

I’ve been thinking you could use one of the flashcard apps with some tweaking.

oh my bad, missed the “for android” part

Hi,

To help test my recall I use a Spaced Repetition program called Mnemosyne. There is an Android app that allows you to carry out some of the testing on your mobile (I haven’t actually used the app so can’t comment on how good it is, I’m just aware that it exists). Main site is here : http://www.mnemosyne-proj.org/

Wow, that is one brilliant program! I’ve heard about programs like this before (read a fascinating article about the creator of Supermemo,) but thought it seemed overly complicated and it didn’t mention anything about mnemonics, which obviously I’m keen to use. But so far this program seems simple and very accessible. I’m entering all my questions now (there are a lot.) For the past three weeks I’ve been so lazy and hardly done any memory training. I think my brain has turned to mush from lack of use. It’s crazy how much more I learn when I’m training.

I’m hoping this program will help motivate me again. It’ll also be useful because I know that there are some things that I can memorize straight away and know by heart after a few days. There are some things that I need to review once a year, if that. Where as there are other things that need more consistent review at the beginning in order to drill it into my head.

I’m working on memorizing information about artists using their most famous paintings, so I really like that we have the option to add images.

Thanks for the link!

You’re welcome. And yes, it is a great prgram.

You may want to pace yourself with the data entry - if you wade through a ton of Q&As then, depending upon the grades you apply, you may begin to have test days where there are a substantial number of Qs to answer all at once. I have to confess that I went wild and entered all of my data over a couple of sittings BUT I was new to memory techniques and training and so didn’t have much to enter in the scheme of things

Thank you. I’ll try to pace myself.

Luckily, a lot of what I’m entering into the program I already know fairly well - so I can assign that information grade 4 or 5. It’s only the bits that I’m struggling with and trying to drill into my mind that require more frequent testing.

Does anyone know how to get into contact with android developers to make an app? I know iphone has iCue, which is exactly what we’re looking for, but nothing on android… sob…

What is iCue?

Hey Josh, a better description can be found here

Thanks – looks interesting. I might get a smart phone one of these days.

I don’t know if anyone is familiar with Grey Matters. It’s a great website with regular updates, every Thursday and Sunday. He is working on an app that will fit most of what you are looking for. Here is the link: Grey Matters: Blog: TYBE 2 Sneak Peek

Looks promising.

Thanks for the plug, droggjr!

The programming is done, and I am testing it now. It should be available towards the middle of the month (October, that is).

It’s ready and up for sale now!

Scott,

Do you have any screenshots you can upload? Especially for mobile devices. Also, will this be available as a standalone app in the market? I’m just wondering how you get it on your phone.

Thanks

I do now! I’m working on the official announcement on my blog tomorrow. Here’s a slideshow of the screenshots:

How do you get it on your mobile device? Here are the details directly from the included ReadMe.txt file:

On desktop and laptop systems, you can simply place the file wherever you desire in your system, and run it in your browser.

On mobile devices that don’t allow you to simply store a file as easily, there are readily-available alternatives.

TYBE can be stored and run in your Dropbox account ( Dropbox.com ), and run from your mobile device’s Dropbox app, or in any browser or file storage app that lets you store and run files requiring HTML5 and CSS3 capabilities.

If you do not already have such apps in your system, you can search for them using the Quixey App Search Engine:

I use Memory Assistant. Works well for me. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.memory_athelte.memoryassistant
