I was not the only one talking about using a lukasa here:
I talked about it at length in Memory Craft. I am not sure that I have a lot more to say, other than I have been running lukasa workshops for students as young as 9 and those in first year uni, as well as adults. They all react the same and love it. The uni students are in first year astronomy and had to memorise the 88 recognised constellations. The lecturer told me that some of them have now made further lukasas (actual plural is nkasa) for other subjects.
Problems: none really. My second lukasa was much easier to encode because it was designed for the information I intended to encode. Plus it isn’t as easy to layer lots and lots of information on the same lukasa as I do with my main physical memory palace. I am still shocked how well the lukasa works.
Creating it: take time to chose the beads, shells or other objects you add because it is that choosing that embeds the association in memory.
People have been adding buttons, keys and all sorts of oddities. They will all work!
