Here’s my excuse for missing the registration deadline:

Okay, I was tagued but never knew about it because my old phone broke and got a new one and wasn’t able to log in artofmemory.com because I put away the login info.
I just digged now to find the forgotten info to re-set up. I should be ready for next time if I can’t participate in this one.

Will there be another one this year? Maybe if I have the date ahead of time, I can put it in my calendar and get a notification for sure…

6 days of open registration is certainly a bit swift but certainly not as swift as some of the competitors here. And when you think about it, it’s a real swift champ you want to produce here. So, maybe shorten the registration period next time. 4 days should be plenty.

Welcome to season 17!

We are starting with 91 competitors this season.

Division 1 is split into 1a and 1b, which are at the same level.
Division 2 is split into 2a, 2b and 2c, which are at the same level.
Division 3 is split into 3a, 3b, 3c and 3d, which are at the same level.
Division 4 is split into 4a and 4b, which are at the same level.
Division 5 is split into 5a and 5b, which are at the same level.

Match Format

The player named first (on the left) has the first choice of event, with the choice alternating each game. Players cannot choose the same event twice, and cannot choose both Names and International Names in the same match. (It’s fine to choose an event that your opponent has already chosen.)

Players score 1 for each game won, 0.5 for each game drawn, and 0 for each game lost.

The match ends when one player reaches 4 with a lead of 2, or when 8 games have been played. So the final score may be any of:

  • 4 - 0
  • 4 - 1
  • 4 - 2
  • 4 - 4
  • 4.5 - 0.5
  • 4.5 - 1.5
  • 4.5 - 2.5
  • 4.5 - 3.5
  • 5 - 3

If the score reaches 4 - 4, the match is a draw. There are no tiebreaks during the regular season.

Scheduling Matches

The League page for your division shows your opponent each week. You can play your opponents during other weeks if necessary.

To indicate when you are available to play, click the appropriate boxes on the Availability table on your League page.

If you and your opponent are both available at the same time, enter the date and time into the Schedule field. Your opponent will receive an email asking them to confirm the match time. When your opponent confirms, you will be notified by email.

Please note the match targets in the original post above. The first target is for everyone to have played at least two matches by the end of week 3 (2023-03-19T23:59:00Z).

Playing Matches

At the scheduled match time, both competitors should write a comment in the Memory League home page chat, to let their opponent know they are ready. The competitor whose name appears on the left should then challenge their opponent for the first game.

When it’s time to choose the game type, choose League to identify the game as part of the league season.

If you are in division 1 or 2, or have been asked to by the Memory League team, please record your match and upload the video to Dropbox afterwards.

Recording Results

Either player can enter the result of a match on the League page that shows the match. The standings table is then updated automatically.

Promotion/Relegation

At the end of the regular season, the player highlighted in green at the top of each table will be promoted to the next higher division for next season, and the player highlighted in red at the bottom of each table will be relegated to the next lower division.

There are playoffs between the player who finishes 2nd in their table (highlighted in amber) and the player from the division above who finishes 2nd-bottom in their table (also highlighted in amber), to determine whether the players stay in their current division, or are promoted/relegated.

Where there is an uneven number of subdivisions for adjacent divisions, there is one playoff match for each of the smaller number of subdivisions. For example, this season we have 2a/2b/2c and 3a/3b/3c/3d, so there will be three playoffs between divisions 2 and 3.

Thanks for opening season 17.
I’ve noticed a mistake in my Division. In week 5 (Division 2c) it says my opponent is Masaki Tanaka, but it should be Aderrahman Charmat. Masaki Tanaka isn’t even in our division.

@Simon We are only 7 players in division 1a, meaning there will only be 6 matches in total.
For all matches to be played, does the 17 April deadline (“6 matches”) apply to us or the 24 April deadline (“all matches”)? Similar question would be relevant for division 1b.

Just pointing out, prehentor put in scores of 4-0 wins for me and Rafik against him, but hasn’t actually played the matches.

Just a reminder to enter your availability on the League page if you need to play more matches before the second target at the end of this week. Currently, only 21% of competitors have indicated any availability for the next 10 days, which makes it hard to arrange matches.

I usually enter my availabilities and so did I for the next days. It’s just that I only have time on weekends and holidays and that’s why depending on when you look you have to scroll ahead a bunch of days to see them.
