Interesting resource for those who like using video games as memory palaces

Hello. Long time lurker, first time poster.

Millennials and Gen Z here may remember spending winters parked in front of our favorite video games. I’m so familiar with the worlds in some games that they make memory palaces just as well as places that I inhabit in real life.

There’s been past topics about this:

But I’m not sure about the rules here for “necro-ing” old posts.

I found this site recently which lets you fly around loads of classic game levels. I’ve already gotten lots of mileage out of the Team Fortress 2 maps for my palaces. The site is called noclip dot website.

Loading some of the levels requires a decent computer, but the majority have been fine on my old hardware.

Enjoy the nostalgia if nothing else.

Thanks for showing this, seems like a genuinely helpful resource.

I’ve found success using old 90s FPS games for palaces, Doom, Quake, Blood, Unreal, Half-Life, etc; most everything pre-Halo 1. Any game that let’s you easily select a specific level is good for memory work.

I’m trying to learn Quake mapping to make a mod specifically for learning memory techniques.

Soulsborne type games are also fantastic for memory palaces.
