How to think in pictures

Can anyone tell me how to think in pictures and lowering the mind voice

What do you mean by lowering the mind voice? I’ve never really had a problem with my “mind voice” when it comes to thinking in pictures. It sometimes even helps me remember when I think in pictures and the voice is like a narrator, commenting on the scene that’s happening.

You probably already think in pictures, but you can train to do it more consciously. When you think of the Eiffel Tower, you probably don’t think of the words, but have a picture of the tower in your mind, right? If you want to use memory techniques to learn things, you should train your brain to come up with pictures for abstract information. Memorizing lists of random words (you could start with a shopping-list), can help you get faster at coming up with pictures that represent these words. It gets easier the more you practice.

Is there something specific you would like to learn?

First of all thank u silvia for replying but i want to train myself like einstien or feymann to imagine text in pictures or like colour to letters . can u help basically the voice interrupts me to think in pictures bcz my voice is like very loud like he exist as a person constantly talking to me

Hey can u advise me some training like how shuld i start
Well thanksfor ur answer

Sahil, you can make a flashcard deck on Anki with the most common words in your language, where you have a picture on the front side and an audio file and the word on the back side. The theory goes that it’d prime you to think of that specific picture when you see the word – which would make you focus more on the picture and less on the sound.

If this indeed is effective, then I would advice you to use simple pictures with so few details that you could close your eyes and imagine it. If it’s too complex for that, it’d be useless.

Dear josh can u suggest some training regime @Josh

For visualization practice?

Well not exactly visualization, i am asking how to think better in pictures or how can i train my visual memory. @Josh

Have you seen this post? I would try this exercise – something like that worked for me with faces.

One technique I’ve heard both in talks on Buddhist meditation and in a book on NLP:

  • Richard Bandler had a practice of visualizing letters or numbers on a blank wall - pick a color and size, and imagine the shape of the letter/number filling the space you’ve chosen. You can play with changing the color and size, try spelling words, doing little math equations, etc., just casually in your daily life. (I think in NLP exercises, a lot of time you are visualizing representations of things and manipulating them in a variety of ways, so this is meant to wake up these abilities in ourselves)

  • the Buddhist teacher I mentioned was talking about meditations where one had to visualize Sanskrit letters. He suggested drawing the shape out a few times, then practice imagining a sheet of plywood, drawing the shape on the wood, taking a saw then cutting out the shape, painting it, mounting it on a wall, etc. I think the idea here was to lightly try to visualize a physical process and not just a single static image, sometimes the mind deals better with some movement & variety.
