Hello everyday. I’m new here.
I am looking at techniques on how to memorise data
For example,
Sex ratio 987
Crimes in last year 5499
Stats related to mental health
Suicides
There are approx 500-800 facts like these which I am trying to remember. I looked at memorising wiki page but got confused as I’m not trying to remember long sequence of number for which Dominic / PAO system is helpful.
Which technique would be more efficient for me? I think Major system should be fine or is there any other ?
If you use a 2-digit major system, you could combine it with a number shape system in order to create images with an odd number of digits.
With a 2-digit major system and a 1-digit number shape system, you could memorize 987 as 98-7, and 5499 as 54-99.
Once you have images for both the words and the numbers, you can use the linking method to connect them.
Example:
Create a simple image for “crimes in last year”. I’d extract the main keyword, “crimes”, and create and image for that. Then I’d use my images for 54 and 99 (Elrond and a pufferfish). I’d arrange the images from left to right or top to bottom to keep them in order in my mind. They are always placed in that order to reduce the chance of mixing them up.
Other people here might have alternate ideas. You could place the images in a memory palace if you want to create that many locations, but I think it would be doable with just images plus spaced repetition.
I don’t use the major system exactly. They are just example images.
54 originally came from the major system though: eLRond.
My 2-digit system is a cv-system (consonant-vowel system), so 99 is “puh” (like “pufferfish”). If you use the major system, then 99 could be something like BaBoon, BaBy, or PoPcorn.
