Categories To Sort All Information?

There’s a new (system?) that I want to setup and I’d like some input. Essentially it relies on creating a list of categories that can be used to sort any (or at least most) of the information that one would want to memorise, then I would create memory palaces for each of those categories. Anytime I would want to memorise something I could put it in the memory palace for the category (excluding things where I would create a dedicated memory palace(s) for it). The categories I have so far are:

  • Health and Fitness
  • Science and Technology
  • Philosophy
  • Psychology
  • Finances
  • History

Just to clarify, these palaces would only be used for information that I come across and think would be nice to memorise, not necessarily things that I would go out of my way to memorise (in which case, I would just create a dedicated Memory Palace).

What do you think of this system? Do you have any categories that you would recommend?

Just go for it. I have a 35 loci memory palace where I store japanese words written with kanji. The memory palace loops and my intention has never been to store the words forever, but make enough neuron connections for the word to more easily stick with me.

I used a memory palace to keep track of the time I’ve studied each day in the week. Now I only store how much I’ve studied in the day. Thant’s all that I can think of at this moment.

I generally don’t want to store information as associations long term. As I study engineering I store information, but that information becomes my own knowledge eventually without the need for a storage loci as I study and understand the subjects more. Some specific information is kept for the exam only and then never revisited. One example is the steps for solving advanced mechanics problems. Most of them only have 5 steps or so. I can go through the steps of a certain type of problem in 15 seconds instead of spending 30+ minutes actually solving it. I store these in Super Mario 64 Lava Land. Solving problems with pen and paper is a craft though so I practice that too.
