Anki to schedule memory palace review: How to rate cards?

Think of Anki as a scheduler to remind review rather than the method to actually remember.

I’ve been using Anki to remind me to review my loci individually, instead of using it as a reminder to review entire palaces.
The intervals seem to get to doubling quite quickly. Intervals as big as 9 months are now common.

The 4 categories:

Again, OK, hard, easy

I wonder how to relate even 1 loci=1card to ways of recall.

For example:

able to instantly recall the answer = easy or suspend the card?

got a partial hook of association remembered but didn't recall the entire number until I went to the memory Palace = OK or hard?

no initial recall at all. Recalled perfectly but needed to use the memory Palace and major system to recall = hard or again?

I am very strict when using Anki for these purposes!

  • Immediate: hard
  • anything else: fail (as if you had forgotten completely)

This gives you better training for training memory systems, calculations, etc. [For calculations I eventually made my own system outside of Anki, but not sure it extends so well for memory systems… could be possible]

Another piece of advice would be to put the cards multiple times into Anki. I have my binary system in there twice, both front-to-back and back-to-front.
