Word Structure Memory Method 2022 Invention

Hi Everyone,

I just released a memory method at SimonLuisi.com called the Word Structure Memory Method.

I am getting some questions about it and plan to use this thread to clarify any point you may have about it.

I am quite excited about this new method and expect that it will become a dominant method among mnemonics using large systems of 1000 and more images.

Did you tried memorizing by your system ??
I guess you are just thinking that these rules will boost your speed. But in reality this will decrease your speed.

Yeah you said it tooks you weeks to make it, If someone read all details in some minutes, they will not realise the effectiveness. But I am saying really it’s not useful in faster numbers memorizing.
And 1 most important thing you will not able to use this effectively in spoken numbers event.

if you think short word will boost speed than it’s not, you can read ben system, although in ben system words are short but do you think short word will increase your speed ?, Okay at one point it’s true, but above your examples sounds like total random.
Every case have different rules.

More like you made a lots of rules.

Last thing I will say is , I am not saying bad about your system, I am just stating my opinion in your system. Because I use letters system in numbers as well, and I tried lots of approaches. (first thing & most important thing, you made literally lots of rules :sweat_smile:)

I use only y rule, and I am using it before reading your system. looks like we both reach at same point here , in y letter.

Thanks for your opinion on my system Rajadodve 786 There are arguments that could be made that this could be a faster system and arguments to the contrary. Time will tell. I started developing this 2 years ago. I have achieved 60 digits in one minute using it, which is my best score there so far. Not particularly impressive, but it does appear to be working. I continue to develop this method as I train with it but I have reached a point where it’s developed enough that I can share these broad outlines and the concept with others. It is relevant.

There are other ways in which this system, learning it can help your memory because it trains you to observe words in a more efficient manner. For instance, have you ever noticed how there is two sandwiches in your own name? That’s so special, back to back sandwiches, very memorable and then I can associate this to the fact that you raised a point about sandwich structures in your reply!

As far as the ‘y’ letter is concerned, I use not the letter ‘y’ but the sound ‘y’ as in ‘yes’. For lily, the ‘y’ there is pronounced as a ‘ee’. Well at least, given my accent and therefore gave it that other value. So our approach is not entirely the same. Sorry if I wasn’t clear enough.

@SimonLuisi, I applaud your efforts to invent new designs for mnemonic systems! After reading the history of the Less L. and beyond systems I’ll be looking to see how this system affects your training times.

I think this new memory method is much more important than the other method I came up with, the Less l. Memory Method. That’s because Less. l is complicated, may have a slower recall to it and is difficult to re-use without at least a few hours of break. So, I knew this was just another possible and interesting method. I still use it but changed/ switched my images around to suit this new method.
This new method however comes across to me as superior and for reasons that may not be obvious to someone just dreaming about making such a different system.

When I made my mind to build this, I knew I would have to give up my prior system and that it would take a long time to get back to where I was. It wasn’t that tough a decision however as we mnemonics always believe we need to use what we think will work best and to me that certainly looked like the best approach.

Lol, sorry if I didn’t make my point clear. I use sound as well.
I mean, whenever I get i, ee , y sounds the previous letter just simply doubled.

That’s why I said our conclusions to y letter same.

But you added 1 more rule saying lily => 553.
In my case, it would be like this 555 => Lily

I wasn’t aware anyone did it the way I suggest. However, yours sound like a capricious rules. I give the thumb up to it because it’s so useful. So that idea jumped at you as having value and you built your system with it, congratulations on your initiative.

My approach is more systematic and refers to the treatment of a specific structure of the word, in this case the consonant - vowel- consonant -vowel structure.

It seems like you would be doubling the last consonant only when it ended by a ‘y’. That’s smart because ‘y’ is such a common suffix.

But in my method, if there are 3 consonants in it, I would not be doubling the last consonant if it ends with a ‘y’ (or any vowel) because a 3 consonant structure is dealt with another set of coding system (the regular Major System).

The lily case is special because it clashes with my first rule of using a reduced word structure for numbers that are easily reduced to one digit. 555 is reduced to 5 and memorized with a short word, ‘law’ 666 is shoe, 111 tea etc.

So, the word lily is not useable in my system to represent 555 as per my system because that number falls on a reducable number. That’s for the sake of being systematic. If you can’t use it one way, then you have permission to use it the other way and so the end vowel in this exceptional case, is used with its vowel assigned number. Another such exceptional case that I use is Shesha, which should be worth 666 but I use it for 661. I could also use ‘Bobby’ for 993.

Maybe I should have avoided using ‘Lily’ or 553 but 553 works for me, using that there was a no brainer. I have my excuse made up as to why I can do that rule breaking: As you mention, 'lily would be worth 555 otherwise. But that’s an impossibility in my system for reasons stated above. It does make sense to allow for an exception here for that word and that’s easily remembered as it is special.

It’s great to know I am not the first person going along the path I have chosen, even if your approach differs a bit. It sorts of validates the idea. Thank you.

No, I said I double the letter when last letter of word ends with i, ee sounds or y letter that sound like i, ee.

example 888 => would be cookie :cookie: in my system.
As you can see the word ends with e, but still last word giving i, ee sound so previous consonant letter just doubled.

Now comes to your second point, why I will double after 3 consonants as well ??
I use only 000 - 999 images in my system not 10000 images.

So if already 3 consonants is there, there is no need to double as well in my system.

Right, you don’t use a specific suffix as signal to double the last consonant, you use the sound ‘ee’ I understand. So you could have chosen arbitrarily another sound but I am just saying your choice of ‘ee’ is associated with ‘y’ which is a common word end and so I just thought that your choice is good, fitting here.

Neither do I have a rule saying to use a ‘single word’ for triple digits numbers. My rule is to use a reduced word for reducable numbers such as 777. A reduced word structure is like Consonant - Vowel, a strikingly simple structure,just like 555 had a simple repetitive structure.

Again, I think my system allows for more short words that people use frequently to fill their system with.
Use a ‘paw’ for 999 and then ‘Bobby’ for 993 and ‘Bob’ for 929. No other system will give you such flexibility. And that’s not talking about the freedom an initial vowel gives you…

if you are that focus on short words, then I guarantee you, ben system will give you many short words like bob, cake, lamp…

Okay the reason I made some rules in my number system when I was making my first 3 digit 000 - 999

Is not for reducing the word size, but it’s more like to use better words, and there are many numbers are there that time I can’t able to find good words with regular system.
That’s why I modified, for my preference.

Yes, and the Ben System, or a similar approach, is included among the keys I have set: When the structure of the word is consonant - Vowel- consonant, my Ben like encoding method is used.

Structure of my number system is always
consonant - consonant - consonant

H series started in my system

First 00 - 99 images list
Then 000 - 999
after this H00 - H99

By limiting your choice of words for images to nearly exclusively the ones having 3 consonants in them, you certainly keep off limits from usage a significant portion of your working vocabulary and within that off limit group of words many would be ideal match for outstanding images.

Well, given the size of our vocabularies and the size of a 1000 image set of images, it may not matter much and you could still do fine.

But if you want to go higher than that (as I recommend a 3000 image system) not using every and any usable word that can work to represent an image will be even more of a challenge and could have a negative impact on the quality of your system.

Furthermore, given the hard time you get making your system of 1000 by using only the Major System, you are not likely to think that going beyond this makes much sense or would be a fun activity.
