What's your learning system?

When you come across a new topic, what approach do you take to learning it?

The method I’m currently trying works as follows: First, I read the material from start to finish; once I’ve finished reading, I close the book and draw a mind map of what I can recall. When I notice any gaps in my understanding, I go back to the relevant section and revise it, then complete the mind map. To make the information more permanent, I use ‘memory palace’ technique to place the information within mental spaces. In the final stage, I practise spaced repetition and test myself at regular intervals using the active recall method.

Does anyone have a different approach or think something is missing from this flow?

I currently use AI to help me work faster in the following ways:

  1. I create atomic notes for each concept.

  2. I create 4 to 10 keywords that convey the meaning of the concept, but for the concept title, I use a character because it can move and it’s easier to create stories with them. I only choose a character that resembles the concept’s function; I never use the same character for a concept.

  3. Finally, I can create a mind map for quick reviews, since reading images is much faster than reading words.

I read it, then read it again, repeat until I think I know it.

I really liked the idea of character creation. I’ll try to incorporate it into my learning process.
