Hello, my name is Vinícius, I’m Brazilian, and I’m new to memorization. And I have a very specific case, if someone could help me.
Unfortunately, my country has a very specific situation, which is that the public examination is the only way to have a decent life in this place. However, the decent public exams in this country require an extremely long and complex test, with subjects such as math, English, chemistry, physics, grammatical structures, etc…
Are there any specific study techniques for memorizing large amounts of technical information? Like these?
My understanding of Brazilian education – based on both that Feynman essay and my sister being an exchaange student there – is that you don’t put things in your own words on tests, but have to quote the books verbatim.
Even if that is still true, the best method seems to be taking practice tests. Write down test questions and answer them in writing, from memory. There are many ways to memorize word for word if that’s what you need. The most important thing is probably the key phrases.
Thanks for your reply! I really appreciate your attention.
Some exams do, especially for legal exams, such as judges, prosecutors, etc., which require this memorization verbatim.
Now, the exam I want to take is called: ITA - institute of aeronautical technology - it’s the most difficult exam in the country and covers specific content in mathematics, chemistry, Portuguese, English and physics. It doesn’t cover memorization in verbatim.
That’s why I wondered if perhaps there was a way of storing a lot of math concepts, a way of speeding up learning with mnemonic concepts… Maybe some mental maps with PAO system, what’d you think?
Pick one method that you feel is a good idea. Try it out. See what worked, what didn’t work, and ask yourself why.
At that time you’ll be able to ask more precise questions about the problems you’re having and get answers targeted on your problems.
Then add another method. Try it out. See what worked, etc.
That way you’ll learn skills that are going to be useful all your life for many different things.
I’m saying this because, for me, the problem was that I spend a lot of time thinking about the methods and trying to figure out the perfect plan. Instead of actually learning. Now it’s good not to rush without a plan, but any plan you made probably will need adjusting against reality anyway. Just remember to evaluate what you’re doing at regular intervals.
And also it’s always interesting to know what people have actually tried out and implemented
What you said is true. If you wait until you’re a master to start something, you’ll never start, but if you start without being a master, you soon will be.
Hi im from argentina. What do you want about the exam? Memorize math exercices? Or what. I dont know math. I use memory for text. But works too ive heard.
I’d like to remember my study sessions. I’d like to be able to go back over the most important aspects of numerical bases, for example, remembering the main concepts of each chapter.
Mathematics is a lot of training, but physics - for example - has a lot of formulas. I don’t know if there’s a specific technique for remembering concepts, as if I were rereading a chapter in summary form. Hence my question
Hi. I dont know math. But if are concepts you can transform it into images. Its not difficult. You can simbolize only the important concepts to avoid having too much images. And if are exercices you could transform the solution of the exercices into an Image too. And then use memory techniques. For the fórmulas its similar if you cant see it at the exam. You can practise it a lot of times because its not easy. But maybe its too easy for what you are looking for.
Oi. I insist that dont know math. And I have a good visual memory and very bad auditive memory. Memorize images its easy for me. It could be e=mc2. E could be elephant. And c the World cup. The elephant wins the World cup. Something like that. Or napoleon attacked italy. Napoleon eating pizza.
If you search for “formula” on this forum you’ll get a lot of threads about visualising and memorising mathematical and physical formulas… Maybe some of it can help. https://forum.artofmemory.com/search?q=formula
I recommend you only develop systems as you require them, for example for me it is very simple to memorize complex mathematical formulas by cloning my prefabricated systems.
Just adapt the systems that are already proven and working, looking for the perfect method will not get you on the right track.
