What system should I use to memorize 200 words a day (10.000 in 2 or so months)

  1. Would be to use AnkiApp (50 words x4 times a day) by chunking the foreign word and it’s translation as images. Even if I forget 30-50% of the words, spaced repetition would practically guarantee that ill remember retain 100% over time.
  2. Memorizing an entire dictionary alphabetically. I have no idea how this would work, using memory palaces to learn the words seems even more tedious than rote learning them (and its not even rote if you can memorize 70% of the vocab basically first try), the vocabulary needs to be ‘motoric’, not linear imo.

The former system seems much more effective and efficient to me than the latter since it maximizes short term memory over long term memory, all you have to do is follow the spaced rep program which doesnt seem that much like a hassle to me.

On a side note, how do you work on the quality of the associations? How do you implicate more senses (other than visual) so you can create an association for a foreign word and it’s translation. And how do I do the actual practical aspects of language learning? How do I improve speaking, listening, writing etc

I suggest using the search function or going through all threads with the tag “language learning”, you’ll probably find answers to your questions.

I know this is going to sound dismissive, but the answer is by doing. Information is like a match, it’s just stored potential. Action is striking that match, converting potential to fire (or information to skill.)
Then it’s a matter of solving individual problems as they come up along the way.
