What is the best memory system for studying medical diseases?

Hallo
I am a medical student and I am new to memory techniques
I 'd like to know what is the best system to use to study medical diseases ( that contain Def - etiology- pathology - Clinical picture - Investigation and treatment ) for every disease
how can I memorize such amount of information for many diseases using memory systems ?

I noticed that most of the systems are suitable for separate words but not texts nor a complete passage.

First thing first create multiple memory palace at least 10 with 20 to 30 places if you want to remember item in a list. Learn the visualization technique and substitution method. when you read the a word break it apart and turn thoese part into word that can sound like some thing tangible turn the word into a visual picture relate the visual stimi to some thing you already know. I you want to remember difinitoins word for word use the first Letter method or Letter method

You dont have to use memory palace to remember information you just can use the visualization method without a palace. the memory palace is mostly for memoring things in a list. You can get around that like famous ledgenary harry lorayne, he did not use memory palaces by the way. Any of his book he never teaches how to use them. also use active recall and fynman technique and space repetition. And for procrastination use the do nothing alternative method. memory techniques can in fact be used for verbatim memorization of texts. I myself am currently memorizing the Austrian constitution, which has about 40.000 words, word-for-word (I have a journal about it on this forum). The only question is: Should you?

It is generally agreed that memorizing the concepts behind the material is much more productive than memorizing the individual words. For the various pathologies, i believe it would be the most prudent to group diseases with a certain amount of the same symptoms and treatments in the same palace: So if you you place ‘coughing’ at the start of the palace, you won’t have to memorize it for every disease within the palace, meaning you’ll simplify your images and require less space.

i visited it before
how ever i have problems like
1- i can’t remember what was my picture in my memory palaces refers to after sometime so i have to memorize them too :smiling_face_with_tear:
2- also in medical school we have a lot to memorize and my memory palaces are not that much so i don’t know how to make new memory palaces or should and how i reuse the same memory palace ?
3- in a lot of times i have to remember a whole text for written exams unfortunately and i feel that is not suitable for memory palace method cause that would lead to use many places in just one bulk of information

Concering point 1: That is something which will happen inevitably, but which won’t pose too much of a challenge when you pair the method with spaced repetition and maybe establish PAOs for certain vocabulary. For example, my image for ‘constitution’ would be ‘George Washington/shooting/his musket’.

Concering point 2: You’ll find more palaces in time, and having only some of your information in a palace is better than having none of it. A palace can be anything from a movie theater to a level from a video game or even a location from a sitcom.

Concerning Point 3: When memorizing the first part of the European Convention on Human Rights verbatim I needed about 140 loci for 2000 words of complex legalese, giving us a conversion rate of about one loci every 14 words, which really isn’t that much space if you think about it. Also, you can use very large palaces to remember bulks of text: I used the Shadow Keep Dungeon from the Game ‘Elden Ring’, and I haven’t even covered a fourth of the total space avaiable within that one.

@Conan1255, this is an advanced problem which is why all the proposed designs are complex.

In my search for a solution to these tires of problems, I first had to define the problem and see if it fit any of the systems that I did a methodical analysis on. You have a root word for the disease name. Then you have categories and not individual words to work with. Each category has many images to store. The categories should be linked together and following some sort of theme in my mind.

The two basic memory techniques are the peg and the story. The peg list is good if you have enough pegs and want to step through each association to the pegs. You need a new peg list for each sequence you keep for the long term.The palace is a type of peg list using locations.

The story is good if you just want to link up any number of images without any organization except which one comes next in the chain.

You’re problem fits neither of these easily. I mean the story would somewhat work. You start with the disease name and then add an image that represents the definition then add images for the definition. Then you link in a standard image for the etiology, possibly a location like sewage processing plant or a leper colony and follow with the images for the etiology. You continue on with that story making sure that the narrative logic between the images helps you move from one image to the next.

Another technique I came up with and you can search for my previous posts here, is an abstract peg list, The five different categories are all a generic type of location. If the locations all have pegs, it limits how much information you can store there. The story lets you have unlimited images at each location.

It’s a difficult problem for sure. Maybe you could post a sample set of data for an easy disease (nothing too gross) and I and others could work through a solution?

The abstract pegs is the same technique used by the Spanish ramon campayo, along with the technique of history, he uses mostly these 2 techniques.
