Imagine Wang Feng after WMC 2009 decided to practice 7-10 hours every day to try to win the WMC 2010 and set as many world records as possible.
Example 1:
Imagine that he used the PVO system and mastered it good enough to get the scores he did in 2009, and from day 1 after the WMC 2009 he continues to practice with this system 7-10 hours every day to make it more perfect and to use it with incredible speed.
Example 2:
Imagine that he used the Ben system and mastered it good enough to get the scores he did in 2009, and from day 1 after the WMC 2009 he continues to practice with this system 7-10 hours every day to make it more perfect and to use it with incredible speed.
Example 3:
Imagine that he used a simple 2-digit system and mastered it good enough to get the scores he did in 2009, and from day 1 after the WMC 2009 he continues to practice with this system 7-10 hours every day to make it more perfect and to use it with incredible speed.
Would he still win WMC and set world records in 2010 if example 1 or 2 were true?
I think so. I think that it is his talent and amount of time invested that made him so good, not his incredible system. I´m aware that he has practiced so much with his 2-digit system that a combination of 2 objects is like one new object to him, but that´s because he invested so much time in it. What could he have done with the other memory systems if he invested the same amount of time in them?
What do you other memory people think? What if example 1 or 2 were true?
I like to think that there are advantages to the Ben System, but it seems like practice is the #1 factor.
Chunking in twos is obviously better than chunking in ones. Considering that, it seems like chunking in threes or fours would be better than twos (click here for a table), but when the index of images gets large enough, it might slow things down enough to counteract the advantage of the larger chunks.
It would be great to put a few years of event scores into a spreadsheet and make charts of the results organized by memory technique.
I like to think that there is advantages to the Ben-system to How is the system working for you, Josh? Do you have a hole set of images ready? For numbers, binary and cards? I started practicing in may 2008 with dominic system, then in 2009 made PVO. In february 2010 I started making images for my norwegian version of the Ben system. It took me about a year to break all of my PVO-records. Now the Ben-system works better and better for me, and I hope to continue to improve. But of course I would have done great improvement with PVO also, if I had invested the same amount of time as I have done with the Ben-system. But I like to think there is greater potensial in the Ben system.
I still have a lot of missing images, though I have a 2-digit, 1-card system based on the same idea. Example:
10 = “TO” (Ace of Spades)
101 = “TOT” (10 of clubs + Ace of diamonds)
I haven’t had much time to work on my system since the spring. I’m finishing up some things here in California and moving to Vienna for a new job that will leave me free time to work on memory…

I am attempting a Weng based system but do you know if he combines the 2 objects into 1 to get a 4 digit system and puts these in the loci or does he use 2 of these new objects?
I have created a list of interactions and rules to combine the objects, which takes me ages - but only for fun so I will keep at it, but I dont know whether to put 4 objects (2 combined ones) per loci?

Wang Feng really intrigued me when he won the WMC 2010. He obviously trained very hard but he is also very talented… There are other chinese in his groups that trained the same amount of time as him like Yuan Wenkui but he managed to come first in the WMC 2010.
Besides with is “simple” system, he has a big advantage over other competitors in the speed events but he is not that good compared to others in the marathon events. So there is still room for improvement. Who knows how good he can become if he uses a 3digits or 4digits system…
He puts two images in one loci. He has his unique way of making his images interact I guess. Thanks for the new videos.

Interesting that he only has 2 images per loci. I originally thought he did it like I wanted to which is have 4 images per loci but have 2 pairs of images, for example.
Club 7, Heart 7, Club 4, Ace Diamonds
cat, hat, car, Giant diamond
Now what I was trying to do was combine 1 and 2 more than just interacting but make a new image.
So the cat had a body as a hat. The car was made of diamond. So now I kinda have 2 images, I would then have these interact as normal. Cat (with hat body) eating a Diamond car for example.
This I thought would remove the kinda repeating aspect of having a 2 digit system.
The problem I am having is it takes a long time come up with the images and I find it way harder to have them interact.
Should I bother or just try a normal 2 digit the way weng does it.
