When you come up with an association that involves people, do you use people you already know? or do you visualize a new face you’ve never seen to form the story? Can you guys create and visualize a new face you’ve never seen?? thx
Hi,
If I’m learning someone’s name, If I know someone with that name, I’ll associate the person I know to the person I’m getting to know. If there is no one I know, I’ll associate the closest thing/person/place to the person I’m getting to know.
I find it a bit difficult to visualize and draw or see clearly in my minds eye.

Most of the people I use don’t really have a distinct face (I don’t remember faces well IRL anyway). You only have to recognise the prson by whatever means your brain likes best.
What helps me:
- choosing people with easy characteristics (I know Elijah wood has huge blue eyes even if I’m not able to visualise his face)
- choosing people with other characteristics. You wouldn’t not recognise batman or Spiderman just because they are masked and you don’t see their face.
- Conceptualising instead of visualising. I have a work colleague that likes to search for mushrooms. It’s not something you see on her, but if I place her in a scene I know it’s “the woman who likes mushrooms”, if you can’t get that “feel”, just stick a mushroom hat on her head or something
- anything can be a person (also animals and even objects or concept), as long as it is distinct from the other “people”. For example I use “goutte d’eau” (a water drop that lectures people about safety while swimming).
