I’ve always emphasized an immersive style to learn languages over studying grammar. That is, early on speaking with language, reading, listening and so forth. But I have bumped up against the limit of how far I can go without understanding the verb tenses. They just wouldn’t stick with me.
So a few months back I came up with mnemonics to create visual images for each of the conjugations. Then I picture these when making the conjugations. I sliced this grid up into individual images and put these on Anki cards. Finally, as I get my visual memory involved, I am making headway with Spanish grammar. This example is Spanish but the principle applies to whatever language you are learning, and I am similarly improving my German.
A few notes on the table below. If you’ve studied Spanish you’ll probably know the first entry is soy, and the second is balloon (full of air) ass. You will probably note that I use Elmo to mean E., Archie for A, and an Ohmmeter is o. Other icons are fuel, iced tea, stove, knife (for stab.) I’ll post the whole table as text if anyone wants it. Or, for that matter, my regular verb endings table.
