Visualization of words without associative (by "shape")

Hello everyone, I’m relatively new to mnemonics (about an year of non-regular practice for every-day life). I’ve been searching this entire day for visualization of words (imagining) without any image, just by “word”. Like, image the shape of word “The”. I’ve tried to memorize sequence of 5 words in my memory palace with form like this, and i still can remember them even half an year later. So, it is even possible and effective to memorize some sequences of words like this?

For example, on a wall is painted text “Everything in its right place”. Add some colors, 3d shape, maybe smell of paint. I, for some extent, can memorize this. For long words, i will split it:Every_thing. But i can only memorize words that i familiar with (maybe i can try to glue different parts of word, i did not test it).

Of course, associative images will be more effective, but maybe i can use it as annotation for an image? Do somebody of you can imagine sequences of words like this and remember it? Most accurate description of this is this post

I think that she has ability to strongly visualize letters and words. For most of people is hard to imagine one long word perfectly(I mean with all letters at once). Try to visualize a word ‘synesthesia’, the whole word as single image.

I do not see the word that sharp, but i can easily imagine 4-5 letter in basic shape their general shape. When i was 16-17 years old, i sometimes even was thinking in words inside my head (audio + image of a word).

Do i need to practice more and try this method, or it is just a waste of time?

The fact that you only memorized 5 words, and really only 1 common meaningful phrase makes me suspect you memorized it through rote memorization even if you weren’t trying to, throughout the course of a normal life it is entirely normal to remember little impactful phrases like that, so the fact you have is very very weak evidence for your method working. Try memorizing a set of 100 random words and see how fast you can do it. I doubt your method would work for me, but especially if you are like a graffiti artist or someone else who has spent alot of time thinking about the order of the strokes of the letters and the colors that would make words stand out and how to make them look 3d, etc. Then i think it may work for you after some practice, but we can’t be sure until you try it on something harder than a single phrase.

So, this is not a good test; see if you can remember a 1000 word poem and see if it works. Still, I can see it working with just a little bit of tweaking: make the words really big, 3d, play around with different materials… it might work really well actually.

Make the word “BERESHIT” big enough to feel up my whole shower, make it out of rough woods so I can splinter my hand on it, move to next room, make “BARA” big enough to reach up to the ceiling from the toilet, make it the texture of a cornstalk, smell the wet grass, move to the next kitchen, make “ELOHIM” so it barely squeezes in between the counters, make it squishy, with a rough texture, like chair cushion, move to the next room…

It’s not impossible. Keep playing around with it.

I think youre choosing a difficult path to do the task, I think you know this already. Seems youre highly interested in pursuing it though so I think you should you follow your interests.
