I’m wondering how to memorise a long text verbatim. I mean, I know, the memory palace helps and so does the association with the PAO method. But how can you memorise a text and remember if that specific verb is a subjunctive, a past simple or whatever? And how about prepositions and all the other parts of speech that are difficult to imagine with vivid visualization?

If you search this forum with “verbatim” you’re going to find more than 50 results… For exemple, somebody named Lanier has a word for word method that could give you some ideas if you’re looking for encoding every little word.
Well, there is a lot of material for the memoria verborum, as the previous one told you, look for information in the forum, since there are old books that are somewhat complicated to understand. But memoria verborum or memory of words is possible, but it involves a practice that requires much more than simple lists of memoria rerum.

Been waiting a long time for a satisfactory explanation and proof of concept of your supposed technique but haven’t seen anything yet. Do you have any new updates for us?

I’ll give you an example of an imaginary place.
or atomic place as bruno calls it.
First decide how you will travel I always always prefer to start
from the entrance of the house and in your place if you will travel from left to right or from right to left, this serves to avoid confusion
and know what order your adjectives (images) are in and list each
place of your real place as the kitchen will have the places
from 1 to 10, room from 11 to 20 and so on so that you will have your places ordered in a numbered way, these are organization possibilities.
I use both of them, since I know where to start from.
Imagine a “cup of coffee” atomic place that is numbered in your kitchen or wherever you prefer, and it has 3 dimensions, this cup of coffee will act as a place, but it is too small to cover a story, but as I said, imagination It can modify, extend and encompass anything if you don’t limit yourself, so I enlarge this atomic place to the size of a real one so much that it can encompass an entire interconnected story… Then you proceed to create a story around this cup… Imagine that In the different angles a story occurs, for example an actor that you know well in front of the cup, in my case it will be Will Smith and in front of him, his wife, in another “right” corner of the cup, his son will be observing a hole that has the cup. and a jet of hot coffee comes out and falls into his eye, in another “handle” angle there is Brad Pitt hanging from the handle of the cup and Johnny Depp hitting his ass with a bar, etc… Which prevents you from going on and on placing things in a varied way as if it were an interconnected story… A single location can house a good variety of images and this is beneficial for word memory.
I usually place paragraphs in one place and if the paragraph is too long, I place it in 2 atomic places.
It is also good to have lists of images and if a word is abstract like infinity, create a unique image for it… For infinity I use a character that represents the night.
I’m sorry if the explanation was a little vague, but there are too many points to explain and too many methods for word memory, but I hope that with this brief explanation you can organize a little more.

Maybe the technique isn’t something you’d use to memorise written material but others might find it to be fascinating. The person in this post wants help memorising verbatim text and my technique in fact does that. So I posted a message.
As for latest updates I’ve managed to transform a book into a single chess position so all you have to do to recall the book is to visualise a specific chess position which makes memorising dramatically simpler. Update is pending
As for the material you post on here it’s orthodox attempts. My technique is a completely new approach to memory. So maybe it doesn’t suit you but don’t persuade others into old methods because of how you personally feel. After all results are results.
For centuries the memoria verborum has been attacked, because it will be less so now where there are not so many works on that memory, the memoria rerum is more accepted by memory championships and is preferred by many because of how simple it can be. Memoria verborum is a great mental task that not many want to face.
Please, as has been asked before…
Just post a video of you walking us through the process step by step with new material that you have never memorized before, from start to finish. Even just a few pages as a proof of concept. Clearly describe and explain what you’re doing to encode the information, then show us how you recall and recite it back. Thats all we’ve been asking for. Just a clear explanation and some proof that whatever it is you think you’ve stumbled upon actually works.
You just saying it works and posting vague descriptions of incoherent systems with no actual explanation or instruction is not proof of anything. Skepticism is justified until you can show some actual evidence to back up your claims. Show your work and show us how to do it too.
I’m happy to get on board with a new system if it can be explained and it actually works as advertised. I think we’d all love to learn an amazing technique like you claim this is, but unfortunately there has been nothing so far to show that it makes any sense let alone actually works.
So… prove it!
If it works as easily as you claim and you’ve done it many times before it should be very simple to share with others and explain in clear, plain, unambiguous language.
I look forward to seeing it and exploring it when you are able to provide that.

We have lots of CLAIMS of results. Please demonstrate with some actual evidence.
When can we expect this? Sounds very interesting, but so far all we’ve gotten is a bunch of claims.
Lets see your actual evidence in the form of a crystal clear instructional walkthrough and demonstration of you reciting the book verbatim.
Hopefully this is what your update will be.

I also find it incredibly fascinating. Just haven’t gotten a straight answer or any kind of actual informational instruction from you about your approach.
How? How does it work? What are the steps you follow to encode every word and how do you recall it? This should be easy to answer. Please explain clearly each step in the process. That’s all we want to know.
I’ll give you an example. How would you memorize the following? A small portion of JFK’s moon speech:
"For the eyes of the world now look into space, to the moon and to the planets beyond, and we have vowed that we shall not see it governed by a hostile flag of conquest, but by a banner of freedom and peace. We have vowed that we shall not see space filled with weapons of mass destruction, but with instruments of knowledge and understanding.
Yet the vows of this Nation can only be fulfilled if we in this Nation are first, and, therefore, we intend to be first. In short, our leadership in science and in industry, our hopes for peace and security, our obligations to ourselves as well as others, all require us to make this effort, to solve these mysteries, to solve them for the good of all men, and to become the world’s leading space-faring nation.

This is only 5 paragraphs, which should be a piece of cake for you since you’ve been able to encode entire books with your technique. Please show me how you would encode this text so that you can flawlessly recall it verbatim. I really would like to understand, so please break it down simply for me.
It is a somewhat simple text in truth, if he trains his verborum memory he should be quick with it.
I could not explain the technique since I would have to write almost a page simply explaining clearly the different modes of application and review the text that it is well written. What laziness.
But I could leave reference books for this type of memory verborum techniques.
Give it a try. I’m sure the community would find it incredibly valuable if it works as claimed.

Are you implying @smith.francis technique is a class or type of memoria verborium?
If so I’m not sure it is.
There is a bit of history here, mostly to be found in the thread linked below:
@smith.francis is of the opinion that he’s developed a revolutionary new memory technique that enables the memorisation of large texts word for word.
He’s posted some pictures and descriptions.
There’s been some keen interest from several on the detail - many are eager to try anything that might work or gives a new angle, but so far no one feels that what is claimed has been accurately described or even demonstrated.
Many have concluded after much engagement that his claims are either overblown or untrue.

Please do. After a few quick searches I only find a few high level descriptions of the classification of memory techniques under the main headings of Memoria rerum and memoria verborum.
Would be interested in references to specific techniques and/or old books or blogposts, etc
It’s in the process of getting completed. Once I get programmers to program the character position counter all I have to do is copy and paste the five paragraphs you sent into a text box like this one. So probably February next year because I have to save money to pay the programmers. Cheers for your reply
But yeah the reason I tell people to check out “becoming a walking encyclopaedia” is because some people are understanding the technique with the information that is already there so that’s why I suggest it to some people because if they can do it without my help it will help them to achieve their goals.
Are they, though? Who has actually proven that this works? Where are the demonstrations and lucid explanations? Maybe I missed those posts, but so far all we’ve seen is delays and excuses and lots of flowery but meaningless language.
Please post up an easy to follow explanation and demonstration, tag those who can, or link to the posts where it’s clearly exained so that the community can see the proof.
