Hello, I’m looking for some advice on whether or not it’s a good idea to use a memory palace to help learn the major system. I have already established my images from 00-99 and I am at the stage of trying to make the association more or less instant for each number. I know this takes a while to establish (I have already successfully done playing cards and know the process and this is similar but double the number.) However, it is taking longer than I expected. I have written out flash cards but I’m wondering if it’s just not better to put them in a memory palace, but I want to know if placing the numbers in a memory palace will help or hinder in the long run.
I did create a 100-stage journey and started to place the numbers in there, but then thought that I would be adding another level of recall if I did this. For example, if I saw the number, then had to find the stage on the journey and then translate that image back to a number. When really the point is just to be able to see the number and translate to the image straight-away.
I know that I could speed up the process of learning the major system by putting it in a memory palace, but is this bad practice or not? I was wondering if other people used a memory palace in this way to learn number associations.
I’m also thinking that if the numbers aren’t sticking as they should then whether the major system is the correct one for me. For cards I used the PAO system which worked well, so maybe I should have stuck with people for numbers as well.
I would be grateful for any advice.
Thanks.
