I am currently using Mind palace technique for college and sociology and it’s been working amazingly. Topics and topics all with sentences and images that match them individually. Yet so far on two occasions of having my eyes closed for more than 30 minutes flying from start to end to refine it I found myself feeling a weird presence around my physical body. I ignored it because I knew I was safe yet as I continued it got harder to focus and the sensation of a presence around me grew more intense until I opened my eyes and grounded myself.
Has anyone experienced this? How can I prevent that as it’s slowing down my efficiency.
Started once I created my 2nd mind palace and after memorizing 200 words. In that new palace. My first palace was small 12 concepts 30 words at most. It seems to happen when I put in noise cancellation earphones to decrease sensory input and only happens when I’m very focused on my palace. Kind of like I’m losing physical sensation in exchange for mental focus. Yet i still feel whatever that presence is bit anxious almost like someone is around me even though they’re not.
It’s never happened to me, but maybe I rarely reach the level of concentration that you’re able to reach.
A neuroscientist friend told me some years ago that if you lie down and completely stop all movement for a while (I would find this practically impossible), part of your brain will think you’re asleep and you’ll start to experience weird stuff – basically, waking dreams. I wonder if you’re getting into such a highly focused state for so long that something like this is happening?
That happens to me, actually I let it happen often as I’m an insomniac and as strange as the experience is it helps me feel a bit more rested and eventually I may even sleep @Ganxel
