When using images to help with memory, is it generally better to go with a simpler image that has little-to-no personal emotional value, or a more complex image that has personal emotional value.
As an example, when I was a kid, I played video-games a lot. When using a mic (microphone) as an image, I could either use a regular mic or Kirby screaming into a mic. Even if the latter might initially be easier to remember due to its emotional-value, could the complexity have long-term detrimental potential (e.g. thinking of Kirby instead of the mic)?
I think it might depend on the person, but I’d expect the cartoon one to work better for most people. You could try both and then see which one sticks.
If is simply for remember something (not for competition), for me emotion have the advantage of be more memorable.
The mind works like this, something that make you feel emotions is what you remember better…
Yes, kirby is visually more complex but kirby have an “essence” and you connect emotionally with him. So can be better than microphone.
For memory sport I think is great to have both: super simple images and also emotional images.
