Welcome to Season 25!
Please read the following instructions carefully. Changes from the previous season are highlighted.
Arranging matches
1. Enter your availability on the League pages
Find the League page for your division, and go to the current (or a future) weekly tab. There are lower tabs for each day of the week. Enter your availability by clicking the boxes corresponding to the times you are available to play a match.
2. Schedule matches with your opponents
If you and an opponent are available at the same time, suggest a match time by entering the date and time into the Schedule field under the appropriate weekly tab. Your opponent will receive an email asking them to confirm or cancel the match.
If your opponent confirms, you will receive an email, and the match will appear on the Memory League home page.
If your opponent cancels, you will receive an email, and the scheduled time will be removed.
3. Cancelling a scheduled match
If you need to cancel a scheduled match, find the match on the League pages, and click the red Cancel button. Your opponent will be sent an email to let them know of the cancellation. If the match was previously confirmed by both players, you will forfeit the match unless you cancel at least 4 hours in advance or provide a reason deemed acceptable by the league administrators.
Playing matches
Note: if you donāt have full access to Memory League, you must keep at least one game available to be able to play a league match. League games donāt count towards the daily limit, but you will not be able to play a match if you have used all your free games for the day.
Choice of events
The competitor whose name appears first has the first choice of event, then the choice alternates.
Challenge your opponent by clicking on their name (for example, in the Scheduled Matches section on the home page), then click Challenge.
Please note:
- You cannot choose the same event twice.
- You cannot choose International Names if you have already chosen Names.
- You cannot choose Names if you have already chosen International Names.
Ending the match
The match ends when one competitor reaches 4 points with a 2-point lead, or when 8 games have been played. Here are all the possible results:
- 4 - 0
- 4 - 1
- 4 - 2
- 4 - 4
- 4.5 - 0.5
- 4.5 - 1.5
- 4.5 - 2.5
- 4.5 - 3.5
- 5 - 3
No-shows
If your opponent arrives between 15 and 30 minutes late for a scheduled match, you can choose to either play the match or take a 4-0 forfeit win.
If your opponent is more than 30 minutes late for a scheduled match, you automatically win 4-0 (unless they have an excuse acceptable to the league administrators, in which case the match will be rescheduled).
Please send me a private message (or use the Contact Us page in Memory League) if your opponent does not show up for a scheduled match.
Divisions
Divisions 3-5
Expanding on last seasonās successful approach for division 5, there are no subdivisions for divisions 3-5 this season. Everyone has 6 random opponents. If one of your opponents withdraws or is removed before you have played them, you will be paired up with someone else so that you still have 6 matches.
Competitors finishing in the top 20% (rounded up) of the division will be promoted for their next season, and division 3 or 4 competitors finishing in the bottom 20% (rounded up) will be relegated for their next season. There will no longer be any playoff matches at the end of the season for players in divisions 3-5.
Divisions 1-2
Videos
Competitors in divisions 1 and 2 must record a video of each match, with your head, hands and screen visible.
At the start of the video:
- State your name, your opponentās name, and the date.
- Show around the room.
- Show your ears, and any ear protection you will use.
After the match, upload your video to YouTube as an unlisted video, and email the link to [email protected].
Video deadlines
The previous rule that a competitor who misses a video upload deadline automatically forfeits their match has led to major imbalances in the final standings. This rule not only punishes the competitor in question, but also unfairly affects the entire league by influencing promotions, quarter-final qualifications, and overall results. We believe that this should not be the case and that other playersā performances and results should not be impacted by such forfeits.
This season:
1. The video for a match should be submitted reasonably soon after the match is played. A reminder to submit any outstanding videos will be sent in this thread each week. If a video has not been submitted within 1 week of the reminder, the video is deemed to be late. In that case the competitorās points for the match are adjusted 1 point lower than usual, so they receive 2 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, and no points for a loss.
2. All videos must be submitted by the end of week 8 (2025-11-09T23:59:00Z) as a minimum. Competitors who fail to do this will be removed from the season entirely, and all their results will be annulled. While this may be unfortunate for players who already faced them, it ensures that in the final standings everyone is measured only against the same set of active competitors - making the season fairer overall.
Transitional measures for season 25
To avoid unfairness carrying over into season 25, we are adjusting the standings to reflect what they would have looked like under the new rules. This means that Matteo will move up to division 1. Additionally, Katie would have reached the quarter-finals under these adjusted rules. Since the quarter-finals have already been completed, Katie cannot retroactively join the finals. However, to compensate for the lost opportunity, she will be awarded the points she would have gained for a quarter-final appearance.
Players who would lose positions or points under this adjustment will not be affected. They will keep the position and points they claimed under the original standings.
Deadlines
Competitors who miss one target will receive a warning. Competitors who miss two consecutive targets will be removed from the season, unless they contact the league administrators with an acceptable excuse.
