Hi all,

Welcome to Season 24!

Please read the following instructions carefully.

Division 5

This season, we have a single division for all the division 5 competitors. Instead of playing everyone in the division, you have 6 randomly chosen opponents. If one of your opponents withdraws or is removed before you have played them, you will be paired up with someone else so that you still have the opportunity to play 6 matches. At the end of the season, the top 6 competitors in the division will be promoted for the next season.

Arranging matches

1. Enter your availability on the League pages

Find the League page for your division, and go to the current (or a future) weekly tab. There are lower tabs for each day of the week. Enter your availability by clicking the boxes corresponding to the times you are available to play a match.

2. Schedule matches with your opponents

If you and an opponent are available at the same time, suggest a match time by entering the date and time into the Schedule field under the appropriate weekly tab. Your opponent will receive an email asking them to confirm or cancel the match.

If your opponent confirms, you will receive an email, and the match will appear on the Memory League home page.

If your opponent cancels, you will receive an email, and the scheduled time will be removed.

3. Cancelling a scheduled match

If you need to cancel a scheduled match, find the match on the League pages, and click the red Cancel button. Your opponent will be sent an email to let them know of the cancellation. If the match was previously confirmed by both players, you will forfeit the match unless you cancel at least 4 hours in advance or provide a reason deemed acceptable by the league administrators.

Playing matches

Note: if you don’t have full access to Memory League, you must keep at least one game available to be able to play a league match. You will not be able to play a match if you have used all your free games for the day.

Choice of events

The competitor whose name appears first has the first choice of event, then the choice alternates.

Challenge your opponent by clicking on their name (for example, in the Scheduled Matches section on the home page), then click Challenge.

Please note:

  • You cannot choose the same event twice.
  • You cannot choose International Names if you have already chosen Names.
  • You cannot choose Names if you have already chosen International Names.

Ending the match

The match ends when one competitor reaches 4 points with a 2-point lead, or when 8 games have been played. Here are all the possible results:

  • 4 - 0
  • 4 - 1
  • 4 - 2
  • 4 - 4
  • 4.5 - 0.5
  • 4.5 - 1.5
  • 4.5 - 2.5
  • 4.5 - 3.5
  • 5 - 3

No-shows

If your opponent arrives between 15 and 30 minutes late for a scheduled match, you can choose to either play the match or take a 4-0 forfeit win.

If your opponent is more than 30 minutes late for a scheduled match, you automatically win 4-0 (unless they have an excuse acceptable to the league administrators, in which case the match will be rescheduled).

Please send me a private message (or use the Contact Us page in Memory League) if your opponent does not show up for a scheduled match.

Videos for Divisions 1 and 2

Competitors in divisions 1 and 2 must record a video of each match, with your head, hands and screen visible.

At the start of the video:

  1. State your name, your opponent’s name, and the date.
  2. Show around the room.
  3. Show your ears, and any ear protection you will use.

After the match, upload your video to YouTube as an unlisted video, and email the link to [email protected].

Videos must be uploaded within 7 days of the match. If you do not provide the video within 7 days, you will forfeit the match 0-4. Please upload your video, even if you lost the match 0-4. Competitors who fail to upload a video for 3 matches will be removed from the season.

Deadlines

Competitors who miss one target will receive a warning. Competitors who miss two consecutive targets will be removed from the season, unless they provide an excuse acceptable to the league administrators.

End of week 2 (2025-06-08T23:59:00Z) 1 match played/scheduled

Nice Division 5 solution, reminds me a bit of the new UEFA modus.
Let’s have a great season!

Credit to @Hannes for the division 5 idea.

The Division 5 is a great idea. @Hannes
You may already know this, but if you want to quickly find the Art of Memory Name of the players in your Division, you can easily find them in the comment section in this post:

@Simon Does the no-show rule also apply if someone is there but has technical problems (which are the player’s responsibility)? Or in combination cases: someone appears 10 minutes late and then still takes 15 more minutes to set up their cameras / takes 15 more minutes because they have technical problems.

I think there is not really any difference between:

  • not being there

  • being there but being unable to play (due to circumstances that are one’s responsibility).

I know this has not been expressly regulated till now, but maybe beginning with this season a clarification could make much sense. I feel there has to be a limit of how long the other player has to wait in case of technical problems and the existing no-show framework might be a suitable option for that.

I think this is a valid point and worth being thought about.

Done now with the regular Season. I must say, great addition with the scoreboard. I like it.
My division did a great job of making themselves available

Yes, that makes sense. The players should be ready to play close to the scheduled match time, including having their cameras set up for those in divisions 1 and 2. If one player isn’t ready to play within 15 minutes of the scheduled time, their opponent can claim a default win.

@Simon Regarding the match deadlines: is it number of matches played or number of matches played and/or scheduled at the end of the deadline?

@SimonReinhard good question - played or scheduled is fine.

Everyone - the first deadline is 2025-06-08T23:59:00Z - please try to play or schedule at least one match by then if you haven’t already.

@HeycestNathan Hi Nathan, When would it work for you to play our match? Might help to schedule it before 2025-06-09T00:00:00Z (deadline; match time itself can be after) :).

Sorry, it looks like I’m going to miss the first deadline. I’ve been really sick and didn’t feel better until today. I’ll make sure I don’t miss any more deadlines

The following competitors missed the first target:

Please meet the next target to stay in the season. Or if you have a reason you cannot meet the target, let me know.

The next target is:

Date Target
End of week 3 (2025-06-15T23:59:00Z) 2 matches played/scheduled

Hello div 1/2 competitors

A common error with videos lately is not showing both hands. Please ensure you film from an angle where both hands are visible.

In addition, some are forgetting to repeat ear checks when going off camera.

@HeycestNathan Hi Nathan, I have entered a challenge on very short notice for today at 8pm CEST since that still was in your availability. Of course, the match will not be scheduled unless you confirm. Just wanted to notify you because maybe it still works for you today.

@daninti Hi Daniele, when would it work for you next week from Monday to Friday?

The following competitors have unfortunately been removed after missing the first two targets:

The following competitors have missed the second target and must meet the next target to stay in the season. Or if you have a reason you cannot meet the target, let me know.

The next target is:

Date Target
End of week 4 (2025-06-22T23:59:00Z) 3 matches played/scheduled

How to request match to the opponent because I have given the availability but if the opponents are there how can I place the availability of the opponent. Means when I am putting the date and time on the website in the league section, it show nothing.

If you put in availability, that means your opponent can challenge you for that time. The same vice versa for your opponent.

That means if someone is not challenging you and is not entering times themselves, you might want to contact them here in this thread or via private message on AoM to arrange a time to play.

Personally, I feel the old system (where entering a challenge did not require that the other player has entered an availability for that time) had some advantages: even if the player could not play at the offered time, at least they got a notification via mail, and that often got the ball rolling. Some people read AoM threads or messages more rarely than their mails.
