Remembering the past

I suppose everyone remembers things that happen in their childhood randomly that they had forgotten.

Is there any way to somehow train this and somehow remember your memories you had as a child perfectly? or atleast partially.

And what about memories from the 1st year of your life

Please note that the assumption in the post is not entirely correct. This thread on the forum has more details about SDAM, a condition in which people are not able to retain episodic memories from their past lives.

If you can see images mentally easy you could remember small things. And then connect others to it.

I mostly go by places (still in a sense the Palace).

Think of the place where you lived as a child, close your eyes and wait for memories to spin out of it.

Don’t know about infancy, as memories from then would be very disjointed and not make a lot of sense the way they do when you’re old enough to understand what’s going on. I have memories I think are from then, but without my parents’ corroboration I would have just assumed they were dream memories.

the only method is meditation and awareness of the time and place in which you wish to access. But no, there is not a way to truly access what you were not attentive of at the time.

Opening up my past has been an unexpected benefit from my exploration of memory techniques, and by far the most valuable. A few things that worked for me:

I made a Memory Palace to learn Swedish vocabulary located in the rooms I stayed in in college, 40 years ago. This meant spending tens of hours there in my mind. Sure, I learned the vocab. But unexpectedly memories from that part of my life came flooding back to me. Hit me like a sandbag top side the head, really.

In another project I have learned a timeline of world history, to get a better understanding. I ended up making links from the world events to whatever it reminded me of in my past. For example, I know the U2 Spy Plane was shot down in 1960. The reminded me that I saw the band U2 about 1982. The Green Bay Packers won the first Superbowl in 1967. This reminded me of going to wrestling matches with a friend in my teens. It does not need to be a tight connection.

The point is, if you want to remember age 12, and sit down and concentrate on it, well good luck with that. Brains don’t work that way. But if you have a whole bunch of disjointed links from some other system you have memorized, rich associations are bound to come up.

Good Luck.

Here’s an example of my memorizing history. I’ve given you Gary Powers in 1960 and the Packers in '67. See if you can get the rest!
