Ramon Campayo's Maximise Your Memory review anyone?

Hey everyone, before I outline my request I’d just like to specificy that; 1) yes, I am a skinflint 2) I blame it on the fact I’m a college student haha

As the subject title suggests, I am looking for a detailed analysis [with examples!] of the techniques Ramon Campayo outlines in his book, Maximise Your Memory. The specific techniques I’d like to know are as follows:

  1. His Study System technique

  2. His Mind Map technique

  3. His Speed-Reading technique

The use of examples to demonstrate these techniques would be instrumental to not only me, but to all of our community.

P.S I have a Spanish memory book written by Campayo. I’d dearly love someone to translate it for me, you can even keep the pdf copy!

Regards, Nick

Hi Nick, I’m working through it at the moment. Some people don’t like it but I am picking up some nice little tidbits. His speed reading is quite practical and I have noted n improvement. He uses the major system but explains peg systems a little differently. He refers to boxes but they are essentially pegs.

I’d recommend it. But the best book so far for me has been the Roth memory course. It is pretty old but solid material and you can have the major system learned off in a day by following it. It is also pretty cheap,

Sea, your input is fantastic, thank you so much! I think I will buy it now, your observations seem practical and unswayed by the typical skepticism that permeates any mention of speed-reading  Is the Roth memory book that your talking about? Roth memory course : a simple and scientific method of improving the memory and increasing mental power : Roth, David M : Free Download, Borrow, and Streaming : Internet Archive

Hi Nick,

No probs, some of the claims about speed reading in his book seem a little far fetched but his method is good and I have seen an improvement. Any other method I tried resulted in none of the text being absorbed but with his method you are still paying attention to the content.

That is the memory course alright. I bought it online somewhere (lybrary.com I think) but if that archive.org site is legit then I would recommend trying it out seeing as it is free. Some of the language is a bit old but it didn’t bother me. Once you have the major system memorised (phonetic sounds for each number 0-9) you can start applying it to your studies immediately. If you combine the major system with the link system you can really start memorising useful information quickly.

This Roth guy was quite a modern thinker for his time and the book itself is quite enjoyable.

Can’t wait to get stuck into Campayo’s book then  Yeah, its a great website for finding some older books, its a useful bookmark site. I’ll get stuck in right away then, however, I have already started to develop a crude system of transforming numbers into images in my mind, so far I have created 0 - 30. Does this effect the application of Roth’s technique in any way?

Hi nick, i would probably start from afresh as Roth uses the major system which is quite flexible for remembering phone numbers etc it took me a Morning to learn the major system 0 -100 peg list using his exercises

Campayo’s book is only good for his study method, but even this is not perfect. He doesn’t give any clue about how to memorize a mind map. He is sure a genius but He leaves so much material for his masterclasses.
