Question about the Palace of Memory

How do I apply information to the space I have? Do I think something like “here I put…” A character, something like that? Is there a way to make it more natural?

You can certainly start with inner dialog in that way.

To combine effectiveness and efficiency as quickly as possible, however, develop lists of associations, such as a celebrity or familiar person for each letter of the alphabet.

Then, rather than describing to yourself what you’re doing, observe the sound of the information and link it alphabetically to the figure.

To take a simple example, if the name you want to memorize is Cicero and the fact is that the name derives from a word for chickpea, imagining Sissy Spacek eating chickpeas while reading a book by or about Cicero while having something absurd happening will start establishing the memory.

In my view, nothing could be more natural than using the imagination in this way, even if some have argued that associations of this kind are “artificial.”

What we usually tend to mean by making it feel natural is that it comes to feel like a mostly automatic skill.

That comes from ongoing practiced based on and combined with continual development of pre-assigned mnemonic associations.

By expanding continually the amounts of Memory Palaces you have as you go, effectiveness and efficiency can increase as well. All you need worry about then is dealing with plateaus and the ways occassional mistakes sometimes frustrate the ego.

I think I understand, but let’s say I take the first letter, C as an example, and then I use Charles Brown as an intermediary since it starts with C.How do I put it in my living room?

If I understand your question, you put it into your living room by imagining it there. You imagine Charles Brown (I don’t know who you have in mind but a google search showed a pianist) playing the piano on a particular couch in your living room and elaborate (as far as you aren’t going for high speed:upside_down_face:) by imagining the depression on the couch, his shdow on the wall, thinking of a particular melody he should be playing, imagine his perfume, imagine your reaction and emotions when you find him in your living room maybe even hold a small conversation with him:joy:. You likely don’t need to do all this later on but it’s helpful for reinforcing the image when you’re starting out.
