This took me ages to write…

Floor Based Puzzle with three variables ( Floor, Person and Color )
Seven persons live on different floors of a building having seven floors where lowermost floor is numbered as 1 and topmost floor is numbered as 7. They like different colours- Blue, Pink, Black, Purple, Green, Yellow, and White (but not necessarily in the same order).

Skimming the potential rules and the questions, it’s mostly about the person. People mentioned are PQRSTUV. So: Paul Daniels (was UK famous magician), Q from Star Trek, Robin Hood, Sigourney Weaver, Tom Holland, Peter Ustinov, Vincent Price.

P likes Pink and lives on an even numbered floor but not more than two people live below P.

Paul has decided to wear a pink suit and tie, with rhinestones.

Also, this describes an even number under 3, which is 2. So Paul lives on floor 2. So now he has a double tie.

V lives on 5th floor and does not like Yellow.

Vincent Price dislikes custard. He dramatically waves his five-fingered hand in disgusted response to custard.

T likes Black and lives on one of the odd numbered floors above the one who likes Blue.

Tom Holland is wearing a stealth Spider-man costume, and has an odd hat, but notices the blue on the balcony below.

Q likes Purple.

Q prefers royal colours, like purple silk.

R lives just above U who likes Green.

Robin Hood watches Ustinov below, jealous of his Green coat.

S likes White and lives below P.

Sigourney has bleached her hair white. Paul, her above neighbour, is startled by it. His two ties jump when he does (2), which is why Sigourney points one (1) finger at him and laughs.

So what do we know?

P - Paul, pink, 2
Q - Q, purple, ?
R - Robin, ?, above Ustinov
S - Sigourney, White, below Paul =1
T - Tom, Black, above Blue
U - Ustinov, green, below Robin
V - Vincent, Not yellow, 5

From this, we can see:

  • pink, purple, white, black, green are allocated, but not yellow or blue. As Vincent isn’t yellow, he’s blue - a small pool of blue water lights him dramatically from below. So Robin is yellow - autumnal and not green enough for him, hence his jealousy.
  • Tom is above blue, so he’s looking down at Vincent being dramatic with his hand (5), so Tom would be on 6 or 7, and with his odd hat, it must be lucky 7, so he’s leaning far out on the balcony to look down two floors.

Now we need to look at floors:

7 - Tom, Black

? - Q, purple

5 - Vincent, blue

? - Robin, yellow, above Ustinov
? - Ustinov, green, below Robin

2 - Paul, pink
1- Sigourney, White,

Because of the pairing of Robin and Ustinov, they need 2 numbers together, which is only 4 and 3 in the set. Robin is aiming 4 arrows at Ustinov, who is talking about his three favourite roles, counting them on his ringed fingers. This leaves one floor for Q just below top at 6, under Tom and above Vincent. As he’s a bit devilish, he has a pattern of three sixes on his purple silk, or perhaps is rolling dice and saying “Do gods play dice?” as they come up all sixes.

Now we have everything.

Q1. Who among the following likes Blue?
(c) V

(Vincent is blue lit)

Q2. Who among the following lives just below the one who likes Yellow?
(d) Both (a) and (c)

(Robin likes yellow, and beneath him is Ustinov in green jacket)

Q3. R lives on which of the following floor?
(b) 4th

(4 arrows)

Q4. How many persons live between Q and P?
(a) Three

(Q is on 6s, Paul is on 2 with his ties, so 3,4,5 are between)

Q5. Who among the following lives just above V?
(d) Q

(Vincent has dramatic hand(5), 6=6s=Q)

Your work is very much appreciated. You worked a lot for this question and provided memory techniques for me.
