Hello all,
I’ve just started using the method of loci - I’ve only memorised the periodic table and some small lists - and I have a couple of questions concerning the process of visualization. So:
- I get to recall the piece of information associated with an image before the image itself. I know it is normal for images to fade after a few repetitions, but I’d like to preserve the images in case I can’t revise for some time. Yet it seems that the pieces of info themselves have become pegs for the images. How can I fix this?
- My process of visualization is affected by the place I am in, and that’s very annoying. For example, if I’m in a small room I can’t visualize being in a big room, if I’m close to the wall I can’t visualize being in the centre of the room, if I’m lying down I can’t picture myself standing. It seems as though I feel my surroundings, even if I keep my eyes closed and shut down all external noise. I’ve heard of some mnemonists having vivid feelings of physically being in their memory palaces, and this is a skill I’d really like to attain. How do I go about this?
Thanks in advance
