Pegging and Multiple lists

For those unfamiliar , here is a primer of the pegging system.

I recently learned this technique and have started to apply it to my reading. I am getting decent results out of it. However, I am curious about the limits of this system.

I am using the same peg list to memorize multiple topics by just varying the first image that I create. Generally, the first image being different is enough for me to switch into that specific list.

So my list goes

  1. Bun
  2. Shoe
    …

I just make different images of buns (in my head bunnies) and that allows me to switch between multiple topics.

I am concerned that this is overloading that peg list though. Does anyone have experience in doing this? Is the norm to use a single peg list for multiple topics that one has to remember or do people generally create unique peg lists for every topic that they want to remember.

I have similar concerns around memory palaces. Do people generally try to keep palaces unique to one set of information ? Or can palaces be overloaded with multiple different sets of information ?

I just found this page which has really great tips on Memory palaces. I’m sure most people here are already familiar with these , but it was quite useful to a newcomer like me

There are some discussions about reusing memory palaces here:

I don’t know about overloading peg lists. I often use them to learn information and then let the peg list fade once the information is in my natural memory. Then I can reuse the peg list.

If you want more pegs, you could create 2-digit or 3-digit number images using something like the Major System. That could give you another 1,000+ pegs.
