Online Memory League Championship, season 10!

Hi @Simon,

Is there already an exact plan for how the quarterfinals will be paired? Like “1st of div. 1a vs x of x” etc…

Might be interesting to know for those who are still going play their last matches, e.g. for the decision what to do in case of a 3:3. Thanks!

The eight competitors going through to the quarter-finals will be ranked according to:

  1. Place in their division (1st, 2nd or 3rd)
  2. Points
  3. Game difference
  4. Division name, if necessary - 1a, then 1b, then 1c

The first player is matched against the lowest player who isn’t from the same division.

Then the second player is matched against the lowest unmatched player who isn’t from the same division.

And so on.

I see. Thank you, @Simon. Quite a neat system

@Simon A short follow-up question: I assume the bracket then looks like this that QF1 is at the top and QF2 at the bottom, so that the players in these QFs could only meet one another in the finals?

@SimonReinhard Yes!

It would be a shame to have the division 1 matches not completed, and I see that the last match in division 1c is scheduled for 10 hours after the regular season was due to end. So let’s allow one more day before starting the playoffs.

If you can get any more matches finished by 2020-12-08T00:00:00Z, please do so, then I will announce the playoffs.

We are currently at 97/114 matches played, which is 85%. Well done everyone!

@Simon, can you post the detail of the seeds for the quarter-finals? I thought that I would have a rematch against Simon R. due to my being seed #8 and him seed #1, or did I read the criterias wrong?

Oops, missed the part about “that isn’t from the same division”, my bad!

Hi @Simon, could you maybe make a separate dedicated thread for the Qfs onward (like for each division during the season), so that we can better arrange the match times there? Thanks!

OK, we finished the regular season with 90% of matches played (103 out of 114). We are getting better every season!

Now we have the quarter finals for the top 8 competitors in division 1, and promotion/relegation matches for some competitors who finished first or last in their division.

I’ll set up a private message here for each match, so you can arrange a time with your opponent. You can also enter your availability at the appropriate “League page” link above.

Please play your matches by the end of the year, as a new season will be starting in January.

Hi all,

We are set for a showdown in the final between Alex Mullen and Andrea Muzii! Keep an eye on the ML home page for the match time.

Also, the next season will now start in February, rather than January. As you may have seen in another forum post here, we are planning to incorporate the league seasons into a larger structure leading to the crowning of a world champion each year. In the next few weeks, we’ll be finalizing the details of this and spreading the word to include as many memory athletes as possible!

Exciting!!!
Andrea Muzii just hit 80 Digits/ 9:75s in training yesterday =)

And, for the upcoming League, what about the group sizes?
-Will there be a fixed size per group, at higher Divisons, such
as 1 and 2?

Wasn’t aware of it until now. That’s too bad, I was already looking forward to rejoining for Season 11 in January. And I was positively surprised that for the first time yesterday a season finished in time and would actually allow for the new season to start as planned. Now all these positive feelings are basically made invalid.:worried:

Congrats Andrea and Alex. Strong performance from both players. 4 hours of memory performance is hard to do.

Happy memorising, F’ R’ F’ M F E R E’ F M’!

Its one of the alg from a big algset called 5-style, which is used in blindsolving. 3-style is already popular in 3BLD and MBLD events in the WCA. 5-style is an extension to that. I put an alg after a comment as there are just too many and I have to revise them, F L F M2 F’ L’ F’ M2.
