So far there have been many Signups. Well done for a shorter season =)

I don’t find my name in the registered competitors List… I just registered few minutes ago

How does the league actually work? This is my first time so I have no clue how the matches are formed or any of that stuff

Hi all,

Welcome to season 10!

We have 61 competitors in all:

  • Division 1 is split into 1a, 1b and 1c which are at the same level, with 4 competitors each
  • Division 2 is split into 2a, 2b and 2c which are at the same level, with 5 competitors each
  • Division 3 is split into 3a, 3b, 3c and 3d, which are at the same level, with 5 competitors each
  • Division 4 is split into 4a and 4b, which are at the same level; 4a has 5 competitors and 4b has 4 competitors
  • Division 5 has 5 competitors

Time frames

  • The regular season finishes at midnight GMT on Sunday, 6th December.
  • For the players in Division 1, you only have 3 matches to play each. If possible, please try to finish by 30th November to allow more time for the finals before the end of the year.

Arranging matches

  • You’ll find a weekly schedule for matches on the League page for your division. This is just a guideline, and you can play your matches at any time that is convenient for you and your opponent.
  • When possible, please indicate your availability by ticking boxes in the Availability table on the League pages. You can enter your availability for the next 7 days. All times are shown in your local time zone.
  • Below the availability table, you’ll find a link to a private message here in the forum where you can arrange matches with your opponents.
  • Once you’ve arranged a match time, enter it into the Schedule field on the appropriate League page, using your local time zone. If the time is already there, your opponent has entered it, so there’s no need for you to.

Playing matches

  • At the scheduled match time, the competitor whose name appears on the left should challenge their opponent using the Compete page in Memory League. Choose the Specific option, enter your opponent’s name, and select the event you’d like to play first.
  • When it’s time to choose the game type, choose League to identify the game as part of the Online Memory League Championship.

Note regarding Names

  • All language options now have the same number and distribution of names, with the exception of Greek, Italian and Korean, which we are working on.
  • If either player uses Greek, Italian or Korean names, Names cannot be chosen - choose International Names instead.

Recording results

  • Either player can enter result of a match on the League page that shows the match. The standings table is then updated automatically.

Good luck, everyone!

Does this mean that it’s allowed to pick National Names in Division 1 too, or does the limit of just International Names still apply there?

Division 1 is the same as the others for this season - either Names or International Names. Unless one of the players uses Greek, Italian or Korean, in which case you can only play International Names.

  • Would anyone like to participate in a League day? A day trying to get
all, if not as many of your matches done as possible. Thinking of
doing as many of my div 2 matches done this Saturday. Anyone
    could join in.
The reason of this is 2 things, 1 it could be nice to watch and the
other is that getting the momentum going. Maybe you have just one
    match left after that one!

Good luck everyone in this new season, Season 10 LETS GO :fire:

@Simon Thank you for the great work. Would it be possible to have players use their real names in division 1? I feel that would make more sense, in particular if people have posted strong scores on the leaderboard.

I think it’s good to have people’s real names if they are comfortable with that, but some people may not be.

As a compromise between anonymity and transparency, the Memory League administrators know the real names of all the competitors in division 1.

In my opinion this isn’t the fairest option.
That’s beacuse the advantage of having a smallest set of names is really really small; instead the disadvantage in not having the possibility to play names is not small. It’s like having a weapon and not having the possibility to use it while other competitors can use it.
By the way, regardless being or not being strong in names, (which should not influence that) I think we should have the possibility to play both names and international names since they are different disciplines and not comparable.

It’s difficult to say that categorically without knowing the relative sizes of the databases though.

The Italian and Korean names have now been updated, so players using those languages can now play Names for the rest of the season.

Hi all,

Just a reminder that the regular season ends at 2020-12-07T00:00:00Z, which is just over a week away. Please try to play your remaining matches by then.

So far, 65 out of 114 matches have been played, which is 57%. Special congratulations to division 1a who have finished all their matches already!

What happens after the regular season is over?

In division 1, the top 8 competitors will advance to the quarter-finals, as last season. So that’s the top two in each of 1a, 1b, and 1c, plus the top two 3rd-placed competitors.

Because this is a shorter season and there aren’t many competitors in each division, we won’t have automatic promotion and relegation for the top and bottom players in each division this season. Instead, there will be promotion/relegation matches as follows:

  • bottom competitor in division 1a vs top competitor in division 2a
  • bottom competitor in division 1b vs top competitor in division 2b
  • bottom competitor in division 1c vs top competitor in division 2c
  • bottom competitor in division 2a vs top competitor in division 3a or 3b
  • bottom competitor in division 2b vs top competitor in division 3b or 3c
  • bottom competitor in division 2c vs top competitor in division 3c or 3d
  • bottom competitor in division 3a or 3b or 3c vs top competitor in division 4a
  • bottom competitor in division 3b or 3c or 3d vs top competitor in division 4b
  • bottom competitor in division 4a or 4b vs top competitor in division 5

I’ll announce the details of who is playing who once the regular season is over.

Does this still apply? Will there be any final deadlines for the matches to make sure all the finals can be played in this year? Would be great for all spectators and as you see in Div 1a and 2b, it’s more than possible to finish matches in time.

I’m looking very much to the playoffs, so come on everybody, play your matches and make others happy!
