After hitting rock bottom with the Ninja obstacle course method (biggest issue was not the course itself- it could be a lot better-, but the translation of numbers into objects when trying to do the actual memorisation) I started drinking lots of coffee. Drinking coffee always makes me feel better, but more interestingly it allows my brain to deal with intellectual problems on a completely diferent level.
Things become clear
The first thing that’s becoming very clear is, that I have an addiction problem. I’m not talking about coffee, but an addiction that may stay undetected for a long time untill it hits you in the face like a sledgehammer. I’m addicted to my New memory system for fast translation of numbers. In economics this kind of addiction is called the sunk cost fallacy; an unwillingness to let go of a project because of the investment (time, money, effort, etcetera) made, despite the fact that letting go of the project is most likely the best option.
Getting ready to embrace a new number to object system
Imagine seeing a picture of a horse with no legs and a question underneath the picture: What is missing?
a. nothing, perfection is overrated;
b. legs;
c. an elephant with no legs.
Likewise a picture of an airplane without wings and the question: What is missing?
a. a pilot, because of the pandemic;
b. a helicopter.
c. wings;
If you chose something other than b and c, the following method will not be for you.
Imagine the following number-object scenes:
- a banana lying on number 11; think of a hanging bed between 2 palm trees, but with a banana;
- the number 3 looks like 2 horse shoe magnets, so by that logic the number 33 looks like 4 horse shoe magnets. Magnetism and electricity are related subjects (hence electromagnetism), so imagine the number 33 as a external super magnetic battery that is stuck on the right side of a portable radio;
- The number 7 looks like a fashionable table, but not very solid. Let’s make it more practical by placing the number 2 underneath it acting like a supporting frame. Now it’s strong enough for a helicopter to land on it. Try seeing the helicopter on the number 27;
- A hot air balloon is in trouble because the air heater is on fire. Luckily there is a number 22 object on the ground, so the pilot throws 2 lasso around the 2 2’s.
Try to imagine the numbers 33, 11, 22 and 27 and ask yourself the question: what is missing?
