Names and faces and memory palaces

I referee high school soccer. I meet lots of kids and coaches every week and want to do better at remembering their names. I use lots of linking and associations and can typically learn their names throughout the game. I’m struggling to remember the same coaches and kids days or weeks later. Often after seeing them at their home field one week then two weeks later, seeing them at a different school. My idea is to construct a memory Palace to start putting them into using their home field, the school and their school colors to assist when I see them again later. Any other ideas or strategies you guys and gals have?

Great idea and good luck!

Do they wear numbers? You could grab a program from each home field.

You said you will use the field as a palace. Are you then going to put that player in their respective position? (midfielder, goalie, etc.).

That’s a great idea. Embarrassingly, I didn’t think about using their numbers. Field positioning is worth experimenting with as well. At the end of the day, I do enjoy calling them by name after a foul or complimenting their success using their name. I’ll combine those two and start putting them in palaces around their home field in my mind.

You probably could add whatever the team name is too the kids/coach name and number. So, number 10 on the Ravens is john= A Raven putting putting Toes in a Toliet. You would only have to know the number and the team name. Maybe that’s what you’re already doing though but even if they changed teams/school it would still work.
