Music Lyrics

has anyone a great method for memorizing music. Teachers say sing it 1000 times and you will memorize it. There has to be better ways

If you mean readable music, you can encode each note as an image, or even a character. Come up with associations for rests and stuff too. Associate them also with the grip, or other finger movements depending on your instrument, as well as the sound. Then you can put any melody in a memory palace.

Memorizing music has more to do with your expertize as a musician. If you can relate to the rhythm, melodic runs and harmonic progression of the song you want to remember than you will remember it easily because it is chunked in a way you feel relatable. Memorizing note by note is a totally beginner thing and even if you remember it with Method Of Loci it means nothing as a performer.

It is far better to see what scale it is in, if it has any borrowed chords, what kind of emotion does it evoke, what does the lyrics say and so on.

The best solution that you are searching for is the journey you have to take as a musician/performer. The path is already laid out and me personally have found it to be optimal if you train from classical or jazz musician. Indian music is far more sophisticated rhythmically and africans use polymeters more in their songs.

If it’s the lyrics, as I now realize the title implies, it need not be very different from memorizing poems. Basically, pick the big important words from each line and put them in your memory palace. Drive through to the melody. The smaller words should fill themselves in.
