i sometimes use the same palace more than once.but i have a different picture of the palace for the different journeys.for example one journey would be associated with the palace at night time and the second journey through the same palace could be at a day time and one more journey could be during when it is raining.when i use the night time memory palace i would use night time objects as the loci such as moon, star, tube lights, ghosts etc…and when i have to use the same palace again for another journey i use it when it is day time there.the loci could be sun, breakfast items, flowers, etc…finally i also use the palace by imagining as if it’s raining there and have flooded the palace i would swim through the entire journey and the loci could be lightning, umbrella, raincoat, life jackets, rainbow, etc…
so what do you think of my method and i need your suggestions and opinions for improving this
eagerly awaiting for your replies
I must say I rather like the flooding and swimming idea!
Can I just clarify: is this an empty palace that you then populate with your loci as you go, or is it a ‘real’ place with (potential) loci such as furniture and fittings already in place?
I think most people would generally agree that you are better off using separate palaces for long term memorisation, but that there are fewer issues if you simply want to reuse a palace after the previous information has become redundant or has become part of your ‘natural’ memory.
That said, it is certainly possible, although probably not recommended, to reuse a palace as you have suggested with different colours, objects, materials (e.g. All made of gold or straw or fur or candy!) weather conditions etc. I think you just have to make your background sufficiently memorable as different when you return in the future and this does require stronger visualisation skills.
i actually use my house as my memory palace so its a real palace with all those furniture and stuff.but i use only different loci for different journeys.and at times i may have to use the same objects twice.in that case i would use the object in a different form.let me make it clear to you by giving an example.for instance if i use an electric lamp as an object then when i use the palace during the day time it would be on.on the other hand if it is night time there it would be off.and when it is raining there, the weather would be cold so the electric fan would be off.but when it is a day time it would be sunny and warm and the fan would be spinning on.at day time at morning we have to drink lots of water to replenish energy so my water bottle would be filled with water and at night time you must drink hardly any drops otherwise when you wake up the next morning your bed would be wet.so at night use an empty bottle.at night you can have a lot of time to watch tv so it would be on.but at day time you would be busy doing all your work and chores so it would be off.at rainy time there would lots of insects flying around your house you could use any of them but at night you could only see mousquitos to come and bite you.use mosquito as one loci during night and the other insect during rain
so what i am doing is that i am creating different situations in my palace and at each situation you can use the same or different loci to store information
