Mowmita's Memory Training Journal

Hello everyone! :waving_hand:

I’m Mowmita. Recently I have started to learn memory techniques. I came to know that it’s achievable to have a photographic memory with proper training. I always got average numbers or below-average numbers in most of my exams. After my father’s passing, when I leveled up to class 6, it became worse. My mother always wants to make me a financially independent person. But I never got her heart. My mother and my elder used to heavily beat me for study. For that I had a lack of confidence from class 6. I grew up feeling that I don’t deserve any good thing on this earth. I have graduated from computer science and engineering with a low CGPA. I tried to learn programming languages and web development-related skills from heart and soul. Put huge effort into these. I failed to remember Complex Information Structuring Facts, data structure and algorithms, syntax, and everything else. I failed to get a good job with a good salary. I got jobs with low salaries and had to do overtime with irregular salary. I tried so hard to continue the job. But I felt huge pressure on my memory and lack of confidence. I didn’t finish my MSc in Computer Science. I have to complete my thesis for my MSc. If I check my network, almost everyone is more successful than me. I am facing all of these because of my weak memory. Till now I’ve been neglected by my family.

But I want to live a good, successful, and happy life. I want to achieve whatever I want in my life.

At present I want to

  1. Complete my thesis on neuroplasticity and machine learning.

  2. Get a Band Score of 8+ in IELTS GT

  3. Data Science

  4. Get a remote job with a high salary.

  5. Neuro-linguistic programming techniques for myself

  6. Digital Marketing

  7. Remember everything in the first glance/reading.

  8. Speed Reading Ability

I have learned the Peg system and the memory palace technique from this forum, and that worked for me. Now I’m learning the Major system. By browsing this forum, I am feeling confident. I’ll try to post my everyday progress here. Let’s see how much I can go forward…

Best of luck for your goal!

I am finding memory techniques immensely helpful in my studies. Just try to be consistent!

In which Subject you are studying?

It’s hasn’t long since I started.

I’m using major system and memory palace for memorising factual information from history, polity among others.Mainly humanities.

It seems your focus is technical subjects. You can post your questions on the forum, everyone is very helpful. They can surely help you adress most of the memory related questions you have

WOW! That’s great.. We can continue to gather..

Day 1:
Recently I have used Journey method and Memory palace. Both worked for me amazingly. Today I created my Major system 0-22 and listed them to my anki deck. And also practiced. Now I all the time trying to convert which number I see infront of my eyes to my major system. Yesterday this system was harder for me but today it’s becoming easier.

I have a 3-digit system but I hope it can give you some ideas for your images:

There are also plenty other systems posted here on the forum.

Hope this helps.

Best,

Thanks… I have a question. Should I learn 0 , 00 and 000 all the 3? Or it’s ok to learn only 0?

Depends on your goals.

If your goal is daily memorization such as license plates, dates, phone numbers etc.. 00-99 major would serve you well.

If you want to compete and you are looking to memorize hundreds of digits/ binary sequences then 3-digit system is the way to go.

Three digit system allows you to compress more data, more efficiently - 6 digits if you put two images per locus or 9 digits altogether if you put three images per locus.

Best Regards,
Rado

It depends on how you’ll use it. For almost everyone a 0-9 plus a 00-99 system are great. There is a huge jump in effort and complexity with 000-999 and you’ll have to decide for yourself if it is worth the energy and time needed to gain that additional data compression advantage.

Learning only a single-digit list is usually not recommended as the lack of variety and poor data compression make it impractical in most cases. It is great to have available as an addition to a 2-digit system so that you can easily deal with odd length sequences, and it is a really good way to learn the sounds for each digit with Major, but it usually is not enough by itself.

Day 2:
Today I have registered for my IELTS GT Computer Based Exam. For this exam I need to improve my English grammar, vocabulary, accent. I decided to memorize English speaking vocabularies topic wise, One topic/per day, 1 grammar topic per day and also do listening and reading side by side.

I’m rooting for you here in Brazil.

I have a couple of 00-99 major systems. If interested I can post my spreadsheets. There are also plenty of example systems on this website in case you need a bit of extra inspiration!

Thanks :slightly_smiling_face:

Day 3:
Today I have learnt 0-50 major system. Also created my 51-100 major system numbers.I’m enjoying the learning the major system.
But I’m overwhelmed by the IELTS study.I’m trying to use the linking method for memorizing vocabularies but I’m failing to find out patterns in words. example: ranger, pit, gravel etc.
I also confused about the memory palace for vocabulary where I’ll be able to store 1000+ vocabulary.Felling exhausted about it!!

I would suggest to start with the places you’re familiar with and start filling those up. Think back to schools or restaurants you’ve been to. Walking the outside of your house, down the street to start creating new journeys. Parks and stores are great too. You can even use general things for palaces like a body in logical order top to bottom using head, shoulders, arms, hands. A car using the hood, top of car, all the seats in clockwise order and trunk. Some use scenes from movies or video games and virtual tours of famous locations online but for myself and many people it’s better to use somewhere you’ve actually been to.

What’s your native language? We might be able to help with linking some more difficult or multi definition words.

Thanks for your concern. I can use memory palace for normal lists but I have confusion with memory palace for language learning.

My mother language is Bengali.

Hello, I just finished reading this chart, and I’m touched by what you described to have been gone through. I’m wishing you all the best in your journey.

Two digit system will really be of help in your case, and you can also have a one digit at the same time.

I have only been in memory training for about four months, and I have gotten better. It’s just consistency and also visiting this forum has been giving me the motivation to keep going since they are people who are doing the same thing, and are so helpful and supportive.

I’m also interested in grammar, I will be reading your posts and see how your are progressing. All the best
