I have just recently started studying Biology and have decided to create mnemonics to hopefully make life easier.
5minutes before class I started creating some very basic mnemonics but if anyone has anything to add that would be fantastic.
So the first step is to create 1 location where you go when you need this certain information. I created a pile of dirt to help me remember the word organic but you could easily use a heart ( as an organ or something else )
Once you have this location the rest just becomes an easy linking method.
Organic Molecules
Organic - Picture an ORGAN or a pile of ORGANic dirt or …
Molecules - Picture a MOLE (the animal) digging it’s way out of the dirt.
Monomers - The mole then jumps onto a motorbike and starts doing a MONO
Polymers - He then isn’t watching where he/she is going and crashes into a POLe
So pretty pretty much specific monomers make polymers.
An extract from a book is at the bottom
Monomers ------------------ Polymers
Sugars ----------------------- Polysaccharides
Amino Acids ---------------- Proteins
Fatty Acids ------------------ Fats, Lipids, membranes
Nucleotides ----------------- Nucleic Acids
Organic molecules are often large molecules made of smaller sub-units that are bonded together in various ways. Compounds formed in this way are called polymers. The sub-units are called monomers. Polymers are classified on the basis of the kind of sub-unit they contain.
