I am new to memory techniques and this site so forgive me if this question was already asked, but my question is regarding the memorization of facts that are not linear in nature or cannot be linearized, such as mind maps. Or for example, I want to memorize a family tree of 5 generations, or taxonomy of the animal kingdom. Since this type of information is not just factual but is also relational and classificational, I can’t think of a way to organize it into a memory palace. What is the best approach to organizing this type of information into a memory palace? I look forward to all your suggestions!
I have never got into mind maps or anything. But a memory palace would in my opinion be the best way to learn that information and you can do some pretty cool things with it. The question is how do you need or want t use the information?
Thanks Tauredon for the link, it did help but not 100%.
Parkouristx,
Lets say I wanted to commit to memory this mind map:
How would you organize that information for a memory palace without loosing its hierarchical and group information?
I have some experience with Mind Maps, but never with using mnemonics to remember a Mind Map. I will give it a try.
I would start with the center of the mind map (Test Planning). It has five main branches (Project management, resources, requirements, test plan formats, types of tests). I would use a number peg system to connect the five main branches to the center of the Map. Then I would take one of the main branches (project management) and take its seven branches and use a number system to connect them to Project Management, etc. etc.
I would already have a 0-100 number system set up – either Major or Dominic, it is your choice…
Does this make any sense?
Hey, I made a video to explain the method better.
I am sorry for the end. I heard something haha Let me know what you think of the method. This is one variation of it.
Lougoncey, Ya I get what you are saying.
Thanks Parkouristx, that answers my doubts. Basically you have a memory palace for each group and you connect the memory palaces with associations when needed.
The picture I provided is just an example, I plan on using this for many business/self-help books. I thought it would be better to organize the information like a mind map instead of linearly remembering the book’s information.
Thanks again!
