Anyone here regularly make mental objects (rather than locations) to encode information?
Background for the question:
I’m busy learning HTML reference information.
While learning all the tags (these are in the form <tag>) I was making a set of objects to encode all of them.
I ended up accidentally making the following object…
The <head> element is a phrenology head and bust. It stands on a wooden <base>. On the front of the base is a <title> plaque. Around its neck is a chain of <link>s.
Behind its one ear is a paintbrush (my symbol for <style>) and behind the other ear is a fountain pen (my symbol for <script>).
On its head are several <meta>l studs.
I was actually building up a set of symbols to subsequently place in a palace, but this already encodes all the <title> tag’s children.
Note: updated to prevent the forum to interpret the tags
I did this recently with a MySQL database schema. I wanted to think about ways to use the Command Design Pattern with my database, and in a similar fashion, I have a trophy object where there’s a “name” plaque and a “description” plaque.
I arranged various characters and items around “tables” (naturally, as this is a relational database that uses tables).
To make the whole thing a little quicker to recall, I gave it all a location in the real world.
I’ve used my iPhone as a lukasa for 15 key people in my field in chronological order. There are buttons and speakers and charging ports. I wouldn’t waste the iPhone lukasa on something trivia since I have it with me everyday. But for me, this is lifelong knowledge I want to have. Perhaps someday these names and birth years will move to really-permanent long-term memory (like the alphabet and the terms of US presidents since I was born). Then I can reuse the iPhone for another purpose. I
The idea also applies to key chains, headphones, table settings, and so on.
